On Monday November 17th the Middletown Community Foundation launched the edition of the Dolly Parton Imagination Library. This new program will give kids under the age of 5 a chance to get a new book every month.
Some of the local people that read to the kids were Middletown Mayor Larry Mulligan, and City Manager Judy Gilleland. There were also two characters that came to greet the kids; Raggedy Ann and Andy. The kids were shocked to see how tall two dolls could be.
Both of the city leaders Mulligan and Gilleland read stories to the kids by Lauren Thompson. Some of the books were “The Apple Pie,” and “Mouse’s First Fall.” The parents thought it was a good idea for the library to do this for the kids, and are interested in the classes the library provides.
There are only two requirements for the program. The children must be younger than 5 years old and live within the boundaries of the Middletown City School District. Over the past five years the early the Middletown Community Foundation has contributed $150,000 to early childhood literacy project.
There are now applications for the program at the library on 125 S. Broad St., and at the Middletown Community Foundation offices, which are located inside the Manchester Inn, 1027 Manchester Avenue.
