Representatives from 20 East End businesses met with Ron Olson, City manager on Tuesday to discuss several pressing issues. At issue are three main topics: Post office Mailing Address; Construction on Cin-Day Road and RT 122; and the I-75 Interchange.
Mr. Olson addressed the post office issue first. The post offices cites a vote that occurred about 6 years ago -local residents and businesses were asked if they wanted to keep the Franklin mailing address after the city annexed their location. Since residents make up the vast majority of mailing addresses, the vote was in favor of keeping the Franklin address. Businesses in the East End of Middletown want Middletown as their mailing address. Mr. Olson said that he was in contact with the post master in Middletown, but there is no eminent change on the horizon. The post office has other rezoning priorities in Liberty and West Chester Townships. A group may be forming to unite a effort in getting East End businesses a Middletown mailing address.
Construction on Cincinnati-Dayton/RT 122 was the next topic of discussion. Dee Florence and Andy Guyler, complained that construction on RT 122 was hurting business because it was difficult to get in an out of their parking lots. Additionally there was no notification to any merchants being affected by the construction. Mr. Olson said there was no mechanism to inform businesses of construction plans ahead of time. He said he would look into setting something up so merchants can be informed and tell their customers ahead of time.
Andy Guyler from Guyler Buick was concerned about the timing of the Cin-Day construction. He said, summer is our busy season, if construction in our area could be scheduled for another time of year, that would be helpful. Dee Florence from the Towne Mall said just the opposite is true regarding the mall. Fall and winter is the malls busy time.
The last area of discussion revolved around the interchange at I-75 and Rt 122. No plans have been finalized, there will be a public meeting when proposals are ready.
Next meeting is September 4, 2003 at 8am at Palmer Temps
