Several fund-raising efforts have resulted in enough money to fully fund the first of a planned series of outdoor public murals in Middletown, Ohio. With nearly $12,000 in a fund at the Middletown Community Foundation, the $8,500 for the first historic mural to be painted on the downtown parking garage overpass is in place and almost half of the amount needed for the second mural is in hand with other donations expected soon, according to Mural chairperson, Judy Bober. The first mural will be painted late this spring.
Among the largest donors so far are Peggy and Tom Blakley of Bla-con Industries, Artique, Wal-Mart, Tri-State Coca Cola Bottling Company and Jennifer and John Ridge who held a turn-of-the-century fund-raising party at their historic home to support the project. Several local artists and business people have also donated items for an auction held to raise funds. David Daugherty of the Mid-Miami Valley Chamber of Commerce held the winning ticket in a raffle held to choose a person to appear in the first mural.
For more information on the Middletown Mural project, contact Judy Bober at 705-4002 or visit the fourth floor of the MiddCommons building at Central and Main Streets in downtown Middletown. Donations may be sent to Middletown Murals, c/o Middletown Community Foundation, 36 Donham Plaza, Middletown, OH 45042.
