William "Bill" Becker, who has dedicated nearly two-thirds of his life to serving Middletown residents, announced today he is a candidate for City Council.
Becker served for more than two years as interim, and later, city manager for Middletown from 2004 to 2007. Previous to those promotions, he served 32 years as a Middletown police officer, rising to the position of Chief in 1995 supervising 93 sworn officers and 49 civilian employees for ten years.
"With more than 30 years of experience serving Middletown people, I understand the desires and needs of the residents in all sections of the city, and share their goals and expectations for the future. With a new Council and a new city manager working closely together, we can, and we will, concentrate on bringing jobs to Middletown and move our city forward to its rightful place as one of Ohio's finest communities," Becker said.
Becker is a veteran of the United States Army serving as a Military Police Officer from 1971 to 1973.
He has been very active in community programs including coaching at John XXIII, Middletown Knothole and Middletown Soccer. He announces all girls and boys home basketball games for Fenwick High School, is a member of the Fenwick Festival committee, has worked with the All American Weekend committee and, along with his wife, as a part of the Santa House cast at Light Up Middletown.
