GM wants to Build Two Plants in Monroe
Wednesday, September 26, 2007 12:18:50 PM - Middletown Ohio

by John Beagle

Last night, Ray Culbert, Manager of operations engineering for General Motors, made an appeal to the Monroe City Council. He wants Monroe to offer tax abatement's as an incentive for GM to choose Monroe for a $101 Million investment in plant and inventory.

"There is only 1 site that GM wants and it's in the Monroe Commerce Center, accross the street from Kohl's Internet Distribution Center." said Ray Cubert.

The facility is thought to bring in approximately 185 jobs that will be filled primarily with current displaced GM employees. Annual payroll will be approximately $9 Million

GM is asking for 100% Tax Abatement for 15 years. The city council is considering other offers, including 50%  tax abatement or relocation to east end of town with full 100% tax abatement.

I think I have seen this guy on the QVC shopping channel selling Gateway Computers with "a thousand dollars of free software, one thousand dollars". I am just kidding of course but I would not be surprised if both deals are not in fact the same scam.

Good, this is exactly what AK needs, a customer in the area, bringing jobs to the area.

I recall someone saying that additional warehouse jobs in the area aren't the best thing for Monroe, that we need jobs on a better payscale, but I believe more jobs of any type can do nothing but help out everyone in the area.

The jobs that are created by these 2 SPO plants in Monroe will go to GM employees and not one will go to any Monroe resident. There is a GM spo plant in cincinnati that has been open around 7 years. There is talk it will close when the SPO plant in Monroe comes on line. How long will the Monroe SPO stay open? Until the tax breaks come to an end.

i live in monroe and also work in monroe for the rail road on cin-day rd this plant would not only help the city itself but also help my job as well as many others that live in monroe. it is an EXCELLENT idea i hope the city board pounces on this opportunity and takes it before other cities have the chance.
