One City Council Member Calls For The Taming Of The Section 8 "Beast"
Wednesday, February 17, 2010 8:00:47 AM - Middletown Ohio

Last nights city council meeting focused primarily on HUD and the city’s grown section 8 problems. As the problems continue for Middletown’s section 8 Vice Mayor Anita Scott Jones calls for a taming of the beast, “if one council created this beast, then another council can tame the beast!” She said.

On the topic of section 8 housing. I'm writing a column and after gathering as much info as I can from the usual city and county suspects....I'm wondering if anyone out there has something that's not official propaganda that might help. Thanks.

thank you Ms.Scott Jones for cutting through the blame-shifting,denial and shirking of Council duties to lay this issue front and center. Hopefully our new Councilmembers will work along side to effectively and systematically downsize this ptogram that was left to run wild by Mr.Becker(interim and full city manager),Mayor Mulligan(in his 2nd term), and Mr.Armbruster(who has said nothing about the program through two terms).

If Mr.Adkins can be so effective re-organizing the mess, then he can be equally effective in downsizing the mess asap. The schools, public safety, business community and taxpayers can no longer shoulder the weight of the out of control program.

Maybe if Mr.Kohler and Mr.Mulligan had paid more attention to the program early on instead of funnelling funds into their S.Main St. historical district(investigation?), some of this glut could have been averted.

Mr.Becker needs to explain how so much of this happened on his watch also.

Merrell what do you mean by Official propaganda? Are you just writing about Section 8 or excessive section 8 and poverty as they go hand in hand.

Have you talked to Ms Andrew? You seem to have pretty much discounted anything that people on this board may have to say about Section 8 and poverty and your take on City matters tends to slant toward the very liberal view of everything.

Mr. Wood, why don't you put the pen down, and not wrote anything. Nothing constructive comes out of this, and its been spoken about considerably. These issues only serve to hurt Middletown's image more, not provide anything whic is meaningful.

There would be nothing but opinions offered, no one has many more facts than those that have been recited. Everyone knows the numbers, everyone council is making attempts over time to reduce section 8. So penning an article serves what purpose? None. Other than making Middletown look horrible, and that is already a well known issue we don't need the added visibility.

So what are you asking...for those who know some scoop on a complex that might have an extra tenant? I'm sick of this section 8 bashing- I know one woman who has a son who is a third generation military army ranger, in Colorado, getting ready for Afghanistan, second tour. As the pilot who hated the IRS and crashed his plane into their office in Austin stated, insanity is doing the same thing over and over, knowing its wrong and not offering improvement nor gain. We all know what secion 8 is, we have had this subject taken to extremes, and its getting as tiring and burdensome as reading about HUD, NSP, others.
