Middletown (MUSA) - In My Opinion, Dr. Steven Price, the new Superintendent for Middletown City Schools, was right about the paradigm shift that is needed in Middletown education. He spoke at the Middletown City Schools Business Partner Breakfast yesterday.
His speech was in the language of the public sector, Dr. Price compared his position with that of a CEO.
Dr. Price spoke about his childhood experiences that manifest themselves in his work ethic today. His father was a man who would require hard work around the home from his son. And despite his hard work, Dr. Price has never really ‘worked‘ a day in his life. His mother was nurturing, his father was driven to make a home. The humility in his demeanor and the analogies in his speech were just right for today‘s education market.
Price is concerned about the paradigm shift that is occurring in education. With education dollars moving to private schools and the growth in home schooling, there is real competition to the current education system in general and the Middletown School System in particular.
Price went on to say that the differential in learning capabilities for Kindergarten students is small. That differential in learning abilities should remain the same or even lessen by the 4th grade. Today there is too large a gap between the best students and the students that have to work harder. All students in the district should be encouraged to achieve. Every student should be able to attend the college of their choice. |
