The CITYFOLK Festival, the region's largest multicultural festival, returns to downtown Dayton at Riverscape, Saturday and Sunday July 5 and 6, part of the opening weekend of the Inventing Flight celebration. The Festival will feature music, dance, and art from across America and around the world, the finest folk craft artists, delicious ethnic foods, and family-friendly activities. Admission to the two-day event is FREE, thanks to the generous support of LexisNexis.
The Festival will take place rain or shine, Saturday, July 5, noon-11 p.m., and Sunday, July 6, 1-7 p.m. at RiverScape and streets connecting along the Miami River in downtown Dayton.
Inventing America, the theme for this year's festival, boasts a spectacular lineup including the best from America's many musical traditions including Chicago blues, Louisiana zydeco, jazz, rhythm and blues, bluegrass, western swing, Hawaiian music and dance, gospel, polka, native American music, dance and storytelling plus music from Ireland, South America, Africa and Cuba. The finest folk potters from the midwest, southwest and south will display their work and demonstrate how they create their art in a program called Creating With Clay. Recipients of the very first Ohio Heritage Fellowships will be honored and their work showcased. The K-12 Gallery for Young People will be on hand to provide art making activities for children and an array of other activities for families will be available including a traveling exhibit from COSI, a rock climbing wall and aviation, culinary, design and art exhibits from Sinclair Community College.
Festivalgoers can enjoy two days of music and dance on the National City Main Stage, over fifteen hours of dancing in the Reynolds and Reynolds Dance Pavilion and intimate concert experiences for children and adults at the NCR Family Stage. The Sinclair Family Funway will include a range of interactive experiences including the Uptime Solutions Learning and Fun Station as well as other activities to entertain and educate families and will include amenitites such as the Easy Steps to Grow Baby Feeding and Changing Area. The Provident Bank Marketplace is the perfect place to browse for quality folk art and watch ethnic artisians create and demonstrate their crafts.
