Author: 409
Subject: Pete Rose
Posted: Jan 19 2016 at 2:11pm

DDN:
5 things to know about Pete Rose being inducted into Reds Hall of Fame

By Jay Morrison - Staff Writer
CINCINNATI —

The Cincinnati Reds announced Tuesday that Pete Rose will be inducted into the team’s Hall of Fame. Here are five things to know about the June 24-26 induction weekend at Great American Ball Park:

1. The induction ceremonies will coincide with a tribute to the 1976 team as it celebrates the 40-year anniversary of its World Championship season. There will be an on-field reunion of that team prior to the Friday 7:10 p.m. game, and the current Reds will wear 1975 throwback jerseys.

2. Rose’s Hall of Fame induction ceremony will take place on the field Saturday prior to the start of the 4:10 p.m. game. All fans will receive a Pete Rose poster.

3. Rose’s No. 14 will officially be retired during an on-field ceremony prior to Sunday’s 1:10 p.m. game. Only one player has worn No. 14 since Rose managed his final game for the Reds in 1989, and that was his son, Pete Jr., during a brief 11-game call-up in 1997.

4. The opponent for the Hall of Fame weekend series will be the San Diego Padres, the same team the Reds faced when Rose delivered the signature moment of his career, hit No. 4,192 to break Ty Cobb’s record on Sept. 11, 1985.

5. Rose will be the 86th member of the Reds Hall of Fame and the lone inductee in the Class of 2016 so as not to take all the attention away from anyone else who would have been inducted alongside him.

It’s our chance to thank you for pouring your heart into every game.

Rose, who remains on Major League Baseball’s banned list for betting on baseball, will be the only member of the Class of 2016 enshrined during Hall of Fame weekend June 24-26.

The Reds had to get permission from MLB to induct Rose.

“I’m elated,” he said. “This is an honor that just can’t believe how you feel. This is the best Hall of Fame in all of baseball, and I’ve been to many of them.

“I haven’t given up on Cooperstown,” He added. ” I’m not going to say this is second best thing. It’s not. This is the first big thing.

In addition to inducting Rose into the Hall of Fame, the Reds will retire his No. 14, and Castellini said a statue is in the works, although he didn’t have a definitive timeline.

Asked what he would like that statue to depict, Rose drew a huge roar of laughter when he said, “I sure as hell don’t want it to be standing at Turfway in the $2 window.”

“Probably a head-first (slide) statue,” he added after getting serious. “Because I was know for that. But any statue, as long as it’s got that ‘C’ on it.”

In late 2015, new MLB commissioner Rob Manfred upheld Rose’s lifetime ban for gambling on baseball.

The schedule of events for the 2016 Reds Hall of Fame Induction Weekend include:

Friday, June 24 (7:10 p.m.)
•Pregame ceremonies celebrating the 40th anniversary of the 1976 World Series Champion Reds
•Reds players and coaches will wear 1976 throwback uniforms
•All fans receive a commemorative 1976 Reds team photo
•1976 World Series replica ring ticket package (details to be released soon)
•Fireworks Friday

Saturday, June 25 (4:10 p.m.)
•Pregame Hall of Fame induction ceremony
•All fans receive a Pete Rose poster

Sunday, June 26 (1:10 p.m.)
•Pregame Pete Rose Number 14 Retirement Ceremony
•All fans receive Pete Rose commemorative print
•Hall of Fame Induction Gala at the Duke Energy Convention Center (6 p.m.). Tickets for the gala go on sale Feb. 14.
The way Indy played, it wouldn't have mattered anyway. They don't need gimmicks, negativity or drama affecting the organization. Not a Brady fan. Comes across as a spoiled brat/always had my way, playing for a cold, callous, non-emotional coach. Don't know if that's better or worse than Pete Carroll, who comes across as a high energy, involved, wise guy/hot shot who happens to have a DB with an attitude, impersonating a thug. In this Super Bowl, rather than to support one team to win, I'll be more interested in seeing both teams beat up on each other. No winners for me in this one as I don't like either team.

Packers outplayed them until the 2 minute mark in the fourth quarter. All the Packer player had to do was catch the ball on the on-side kick. Didn't do it. Seattle came back and won the game in OT, going to the Super Bowl for the second straight time. Sad. I'm not a GB fan but the Packers gift wrapped the game and tied the gift with a little bow for the Seahawks. Looks like Christmas came a little late in Seattle. GB choked with the game on the line.

I can just hear Richard Sherman's cocky little tirade, just like last year. Hate to see people like Sherman and Pete Carroll winning it all.

QUESTION IS, HOW MANY MORE YEARS (10 AND COUNTING)WILL THEY GIVE MARVIN LEWIS TO GET PAST THE FIRST ROUND OF THE PLAYOFFS?

Mercy, what a lousy qb. Int's , can't move the Ravens down the field to score settling for field goals at best......if the Ravens were smart, they would look for another qb in the off season. Flacco should be done in the NFL IMO.

Now the Chargers at 9and 7. Bengals should beat them depending on what kind of game Phillip Rivers has. I've seen him look good and have seen him look terrible. Not consistent at all. If he's on, the Bengals may be in trouble, especially if Andy Dalton starts throwing INT's again. You and I know he's prone to doing that.

If history repeats itself, your Bengals may not make it past the first round, and, if they do win, they will face an improved Patriot or Chiefs team with the Broncos waiting down the road for someone. I doubt they will make it as AFC champs. We'll see. The Bengal's fans are riding high right now, thinking their team has a chance. They do not realize disappointment is down the road......perhaps as early as next Sunday......

Andy Dalton throwing three INT's and sacked a number of times. Ravens Flacco lousy QB. Can't move the team that well. Can't run, can't throw accurately. Just plain not good. Ravens running game non-existent. Bengals not much better. Yet, they came back after being down by 17 to tie on an unbelievable tipped ball in the end zone. Ravens 32 tipped ball in the air instead of knocking to the ground. What the hell was he thinking? Still, in OT, another loss and a 6 and 4 record going into Cleveland next week. Probably no Super Bowl Baby for your Bengals this year, but a possible playoff berth awaits at 10 and 6, maybe 9 and 7 perhaps.......with probably a first round exit for Marvelous Marvin and company.
