Saw the Journal article today that 2 of the 4 people on the drug dealer intervention program violated the rules and were dismissed and charged several times. The report said they "relapsed". Right. Smiley, one of the violators, assaulted an officer, attempted domestic violence when he assaulted his girlfrend, criminal damaging, resisting arrest, attempted burglary, and obstructing official business plus had a little drug dealing action going on with a juvenile. C'mon, did the folks who set this up really think that people like this could be rehabbed? The article didn't say when this program was enacted, but I believe it wasn't too long ago. Didn't take long for the problems to begin, did it? Time to stop trying to help people who don't really want to be helped, perhaps? Just put 'em away and forget about them.

It's all very laughable. The only reason these thugs signed on with the program was to stay out of jail. It doesn't take a doctoral degree to know that but apparently city officials don't know it. Calling it a relapse only exonerates the idiots who dreamed up this bull**** program at the tax payer expense. |

If you wanna do something for those crime areas how about helping those that live there and are trying to survive by working and trying to keep their kids safe. why not go arrest the drug dealers and the users instead of offering this joke program.
I cant believe anyone thought this would work, I think it is a good idea on paper, but in the real world it doesn't work. Just clean up the streets already, stop worring about the guy going 5 miles over the speed limit down Grand and go arrest the hookers and dealers down on the corner of Central and Curtis. Or, dont arrest them, but dont spend money trying to help those that dont want it. Use that money to fix some pot holes around here. Our streets are becoming a joke!!
