Has anyone noticed a problem with the city water ? The water in my house has an "acidic" taste. We have no filtering system on the line nor on the faucet itself. What is interesting is if you "boil" the water on the stove. The boiled water smells so bad it will gag you,it doesn't smell like this straight out of the faucet, just when it's boiled.

Anyone have any ideas as to why boiled water would smell and taste so badly ?

Middletown water is loaded with flouride. The pH is usually around 7.0 which is fairly neutral as to acidity/alkalinity. Other than that, it comes from the aquifer below us and has always tasted ok. Perhaps someone got a little "over zealous" with the chemicals at the old water dept.????

Well I thought it could be my pipes as well. But I was boiling water for hot chocolate and noticed it smelled very bad,but I have 2 filtering water jugs in the fridge and used water from one of them and the smell and taste was ok. As long as it's filtered apperantly it's alright, but unfiltered it's pretty nasty.

Depending on what type of disinfection process they use it could be any number of things. Certain chlorines react with micro fibers in homes and give off cat urine type odors. Happens most typically with new carpet, new furniture, etc and eventually goes away shortly. There may also have been some sort of sulfur byproduct in the water and you made it airborne with the heat. I believe Middletown uses a very tried and trusted treatment system, very little chemicals except some coagulants and government mandated chlorine and flouride. We are blessed to live over the Great Miami Aquifer.

From what I hear, Middletown has the best water around...better than Frankin and Monroe. I think it tastes ok, though I never tried to boil any yet.
