So, let me see if I have this straight:

During last year’s Charter review, one of the Review Committee members was all for REDUCING the size of city council and ELIMINATING representation by Wards as the best way of “allowing everyone to be fairly represented.” Recently, this same person wrote a guest column in The Middletown Journal advocating INCREASING the size of the Butler County Commission and ADDING representation by Districts to obtain a “more representative form of government” for Butler County.

Now, on the face of it, this just doesn’t make sense. These two stances are directly contradictory.

But (there’s always a “but”, isn’t there?) then I found this little item tucked away in a corner of the far reaches of The Journal’s web site:

***************************************************************

Paul Nenni, former Middletown city councilman and unsuccessful candidate for state representative, has pulled petitions to run in the Republican primary for Butler County Commission, according to the local board of elections.

******************************************************************
The contradictions make sense now!!! More County Commission seats would make it easier for Mr. Nenni to get (or keep) one for himself!!!

Also, does anyone else remember the MMF flyer that was being distributed from our City Manager’s office???

Allow me to refresh your memories on one of the “Other goals” listed on that flyer:

• Consider future ballot issue which would make Butler County Commission more responsive by adding two members and dividing commission in what would essentially be wards.

No such thing as MMF??? Not much!!!

Mike- this article does not surprise me concerning Nenni. Whether true or not, since the high school days, he has always given the impression that it was all about him. He seems to exude a somewhat arrogant attitude about himself in the way he speaks, how he approaches people and in his general demeanor in public. I think he demonstrated this while sitting behind the council desk years ago. It should come as no surprise, that he would sponsor the reduction in the number of Midd. city council but wants to increase the number in the county commission seats, obviously giving him more of a chance of gaining his spot on commission. Could Nenni be an MMF puppet?
