I wonder if our ED Department has been in contact with the Blue Ash Airport or any of the Blue Ash airport businesses ]

Staff Writer TURTLECREEK TWP. — The Warren County Airport will likely be expanding to adopt many of the flight services abandoned by the closing of he Blue Ash airport, county officials said today. The Warren County Airport, located northwest of Lebanon on Greentree Road, plans to build more hangars and take on more flight-related businesses due to the closure of Blue Ash’s airport, said county Commissioner Dave Young. “We’re looking at adopting their aviation school, possibly their charter businesses and some other big things that are still in the works,” Young said. The airport is privately owned, so the county would not have to pay for building new hangars or infrastructure improvement. The county owns the land the airport is built on. Young said there were no plans to increase the runway size or for the airport to begin taking large commercial jets. Cincinnati officials announced earlier this week that they wanted to close the 91-year-old airport in early June. Cincinnati will turn the airport land over to the city of Blue Ash, which has indicated they will not attempt to continue to run an airport there. Airport co-owner Bob Henderson was less definitive about the possibility of growth of the airport. “Nothing’s definitive yet, but it’s within the realm of possibility we’d be receiving a good chunk of the companies left out of Blue Ash,” said Henderson, who estimated between 18 and 40 companies could end up relocating to Warren County. Young said the prospect was exciting because it would give corporations easy access to Warren County. “I think you can directly trace Blue Ash’s growth to the ease of the small airport that was located right there,” Young said. “Heaving an expanded operation at the Warren County airport is an impetus for more corporations to look at Warren County as a place to locate because there is easy access to the area, on top of the great schools and other amenities available here.” Henderson saw smaller economic development possibilities by the growth. “It would be good for the airport and good for the county,” Henderson opined. “More foot traffic in the area. People stopping for a bite to eat before they come to fly their planes. Plus people want to play where they live and vice versa.” |

Boy would this breath some life into our airport. I would like to see the city pursue this and mention the ample length of runway to accomodate large jets as well as recip. aircraft.

What a shot in the arm that would be for Middletown. But........this is Middletown and we all know the past attempts at economic development in this town have been disasters. It has been abysmal at best. I really don't think we have anyone who has a clue how to do economic devel. correctly here. Haven't had for a long time. City leaders are so focused on the S. Main St/downtown/Cincy State redevelopment that the rest of the city is getting no attention at all. Even the once labeled "prime location" East End is stagnated and has taken a back seat to downtown. Totally misfocused. Middletown gave the airport away to the sky diving convict. The convict now controls the operation of the entire airport thanks to Mr Bevis and Ms Gilleland.

What a shame. Don't suppose the convict would pursue this airport opportunity do you? By your information, since the airport is in private hands, there shouldn't be any taxpayer money supporting it anymore, right? Solely run and financed by the private skydiving company, is it? The airport was run by Hogan Air years ago. He went to jail too, didn't he? It would appear the airport operations seem to attract the criminal element, doesn't it? Must be just coincidence.

It is clear that you know nothing of how the airport runs or the economic effect the skydivers have on the city. You say the skydivers run the airport, nothing is further from the truth. I have not seen you at the airport at anytime yet you profess to know it all. Make an apperance at Middletown Regional, enjoy the activities and have fun. By the way; there are more firms located at the field than ever before, all hangars are full and 3 business jets with executives duing work in town, have landed in the past 60 minutes.

JAG, I think Ms. Moon was questioning the validity of Middletown29 statement. I agree there (appears) is certainly more activity at the airport as I am noticing more jets (big jets) near the big blue hanger as I drive down SR4.
So why doesn't the city (and others) do anything else with the airport beside complain about it? I would think the city should know the potential value of their facilities. And if they think the skydivers are nothing but convicts then why do they continue to allow them to assume more space and build and improve upon it? It all just seems to be personal disagreements and bias are painting the image of the airport (and other past and current issues.) |

Correct NOLA it is personal and it begins on the east end second floor of the city building. It's the office with all the fancy colors and a gal who can't make a decision to save her life but will soon be able to retire with full bennies.

Henderson said equipment was being moved into place on Friday to begin construction on two new hangars and additional ramp space. Henderson said there is a need for expansion because of the closing of the Blue Ash Airport. The 91-year-old airport is set to close in June. Henderson said Warren County’s airport will be “picking up at least 30 new aircraft” from Blue Ash. “It’s been a little on the slow side the last couple of years,” Henderson said. “But the economy seems like it is recovering and this is going to be very helpful.” The expansion does not affect any of the businesses that operate at the airport, said Jaime Praeter, owner of Skydive Warren County. “People going to the airport already have a purpose in mind,” Praeter said. “But I do think the airport will really be able to benefit from this. I also think the additional traffic coming this way will affect the surrounding community businesses.” Warren County Commission Tom Ariss agreed. “There will definitely be potential for economic development,” Ariss said. “It’s unfortunate for the Blue Ash Airport, but in the long-term it is going to be great for us.” The two new buildings will total about 30,000 square feet and will bring the total number of hangars to 18 at the airport, which sits on 120 acres off Greentree Road just northwest of Lebanon. “We still have 30 acres we can develop, so there are years of growth still ahead,” Henderson said. The project should take approximately four months to complete, Henderson said. The Warren County Airport opened for business in 1955. It has one runway that’s 4,502 feet long by 65 feet wide. According to its website, 95 percent of the airport’s buildings have been built in the last nine years, and it currently houses more than 100 aircraft. In addition to Skydive Warren County, the airport is home to the Gentle Breeze Hot Air Balloon Company, Miami Valley Hospital CareFlight, the Warren County Aerospace Academy, Vertical Advantage Helicopters and the DirectFlight Training School. Some of this should be occuring in Middletown ! |
