Went over to get our morning coffee this past Saturday and Sunday at Mickie D's on Commerce Drive. Noticed that there was a sign on the front of the former Duke gas station at the corner of 122 and Commerce- across from the vacant BP station. The sign read- For Sale Commercial property or something to that effect. I thought that the BP. the Duke station, the Waffle House, the Putt-Putt/Score Dealership, all, were abandoned to make room for the new 122 ramps. If so, hasn't all this property been purchased for this need???? Why is there a For sale sign on this property when it was closed for the ramp project?

Vet: Now please do NOT put too much stock in this, as I have not seen drawings or read anything official, but I was at some presentations regarding these matters, and I do have some recollection. As I recall, there will be no “curb cuts” available along SR 122 between Union Road and Town Boulevard, except for the Interstate ramps. There will be no access to/from Commerce drive except via Market Street off Union Road. There will be no access to, for example, the Ramada Inn except through the new business park off Union Road. Commerce Drive will be realigned to cut THROUGH the lots where the Waffle House and Score Chrysler, etc. were and will end just to the NORTHWEST of the Duke property.
The Upside to all this??? It has eliminated several “tacky” (but thriving) businesses, and along with a more expensive, awkward “Left turn and a loop” on ramp access to northbound I-75, will maintain space for a lovely, costly “Water Feature” at this new gateway to our dieing city. |
