I doubt it will be Ok'd by the City as it will set a precedent #1 and #2 the reason for the action amounts to about 35 Cents a day for a job paying $50,000.00 a year.
But them again I am not up on all of the legal steps that could lead to a successful secession.

There is a small creek (actually a drainage ditch) that meanders along the rear lot lines of several of the lots in our neighborhood, including ours. During and after hard rains, it often rises to the point where a small "island" with a single tree forms.
Since about 1999 or 2000, whenever City Hall has pulled an especially boneheaded move, I have joked that "next time the creek rises and forms our 'island', I'm gonna hang a flag from the tree and declare it the 'Sovereign Nation of Commonsensonia', free from the tyranny of Middletown!"
I hope those folks can pull off succession, but I doubt that the city will allow it without a fight, and that will be expensive. I wonder if I could convince 75% of my neighbors?

The story says that they want to leave the city for Turtlecreek Township because of the difference in city taxes that they have to pay. Think that's the real reason???- OR- could it be that those folks are just tired of the nonsense from this inept city government and are ashamed of living in the welfare city of SW Ohio? This ought to be a message for those in the city building--- but--- maybe not. They're probably too busy fighting this enormous cemetery problem and arguing with people who are just trying to help them. Combined with the HUD funding fiasco and the downtown cluster, it may be beyond their abilities to handle.

Viet Vet -
Thank you again for your keen insight and right-on-target comments. By the way, I will not give up on exposing the truth about the City's waste and mismanagement of HUD funds. And, I do wish to thank Miss Vivian Moon for her steadfast desire to tell the sordid truth about the City's neglect of the Historic Pioneer Cemetery. I am giving her $100 for legal expenses and I trust that others will help her with legal expenses.
