Crawford street made the 5 o'clock news on channel 12 tonight. Crime ! Major Hoffman says it's up to the citizens to help out because of man shortages on the police department. Does this mean citizens can now shoot, detain, chase, etc the criminal elements into other parts of the city ? A few were talking about a neighborhood watch program.

Funny how it is always up to the Citizens in Middletown.  The next question is since it is always up to the Citizen for just about everything why do we need a Council, City Manager, etc.?

Citizens must fight Crime
Citizens must fix the Pool
Citizens must maintain the Cemetery
Citizens Must maintain the numerous Parks
Citizens must fix the sidewalks
Citizens must fix the street gutters
Citizens must pickup the trash
ETC.
ETC.
ETC.

About the only thing the City does is set up more committees to tell us citizens what we must do and what they can't or won't do.
When the people fear their government, there is tyranny; when the government fears the people, there is liberty.

Correct pacman
but no worries--the day of reckoning comes in November
Council's and Admin's support level is probably the lowest it has ever been and still dropping. At this point, they need us much more than we need them. And they are finally beginning to realize this, and aren't very happy about it.
WE hold the cards.

I hope and pray that fair-minded, cost-conscious citizens of Middletown will go to the polls in record numbers this year and vote to take back control of local government.  God only knows how desperately we need honest, courageous and determined elected officials to ensure that the current "government knows best" as well as "elitist" philosophies are put to an end.  May each of you experience a joyous Easter.

“We don’t have the money” …while every city around us froze salaries and cut back employees we gave raises and didn’t freeze any salaries that I know of. Now Mr. Becker informs us that things aren’t looking good....DUH!
And now the Mayor and Council want a raise?
All while the citizens have to go out and take care of their homes plus all city owned parks and a cemetery. What’s wrong with this picture? Then come November they will be asking for even more of our money so we can give them another raise next year.
We need to keep their feet to the fire so they will do the will of the people not what their special interest group wants done.
We need to make our vote count come November and take back our City.
We need to teach them how to spell FRUGAL.

Someone should also explain the "Sunshine Law" to them.
Conference calls? Wonder how many of these take place.

randy- actually, Crawford St. was a respectable street in the 50's. Hard working Armco people lived there and took care of their homes back then. People actually cared what their place looked like and had pride. Crawford isn't the only street that has suffered the ravages of time. As the older folks with pride died or moved out, they were replaced with people who cared less about maintaining their house for various reasons. Less disposable income to maintain their place and a different upbringing probably played a major role in the downfall. Grand Avenue, between Orchard and Highview, where I was raised in the 50's/60's is a good example of the deterioration. Years ago, this area was always well maintained. Yards were kept up. No cars parked on the front lawn, houses always painted- people gave a crap. Now- well you see the difference in pride level. Of course I'm generalizing here- there are some properties that are still kept up in this area but not to the extent that it once was. Sad to see how some once well kept areas of town in the 60's, have been reduced in appeal over the years.
