"We are currently conducting staff budget meetings. At this time we still need to reduce the 2010 budget by another $600,000 or increase revenues to that extent. Staff is still formulating our recommendation." Judy Gilleland

Gilleland and crew are sure procrastinating on these cuts. Keep hearing the same old message of "we're working on the budget" and "still formulating our recommendations". Nonsense. Stop talking about it and get on with it. Make the $600,000 in cuts with the duplicate high salary/benefits Director/middle management positions and be done with it. Let the remaining Directors double up on duties. The "increased revenue" comment is a joke. You have no large sources to collect revenue from because you don't have a large tax base from corporate taxes and employee payroll taxes to take from. You blew that when you stopped bringing in companies and jobs. All you have is the "nickle and dime revenue" that won't come close to the $600,000 you need. Where is your plan to grow measureable revenue (read as new jobs/companies) for the city and why wasn't it implemented years ago? What are you waiting for?

Recommendation, increase employee contribution to Health Care Insurance by $25.00 per week.  $25.00 x 52 x 400 emp. = $520,000.00 no layoffs needed.  I am sure you can find $80,000.00 somewhere.

Why do you think they wanted the wards eliminated and the purpose of Keep Middletown Moving Forward? Its to bring in a stacked deck council that would find a way to raise taxes to 2.25%. Read about Duritsch's comments about services will have to give. Middletown doesn't realize its their attitude that has newcomers turned off, no thnaks, I don't want to live in your city of cameras, intimidation, and the house owner has lost their shirts on property they can't give away. Wonder how money Weatherwax borrowed this year. Purgatory in Middletown, just like Dante's Inferno. Misery daily.
