A spanking could be in order but I'm afraid one or more of you might enjoy it a little to much.

Hmmm....lets go through the logic of your response Kelly. MURDOCK criticizes Vet for calling Mr. Armbruster 'Jimmie.' I criticiize MURDOK whomever he/ she to be, because the hypocrisy of lambasting Mr. Self, but taking exception to Mr. Armbruster being called 'Jimmie.' I respond to spider who says screen name isn't important but maybe M ought to be outing. I state the issues are the city has serious problems, and drive by assassination is inappropriate. So although my position contracts M, we are one? No, I am me, she is she. Spider probably remembers the lyrics like this from the Beatles song. I am the walrus, I am the ape men, ho cho cho, Come Together.

spider, I certainly do not make attempts to make negative personal comments about anyone. i speak only on my view professionally, of council and leadership, and the effect it has had upon me and the citizens of Middletown. I have not met Mr. Self, nor would recognize him if I walked past him. But I don't condone as Limbaugh would say, drive by shooting attacks. Therefore, I was startled to read the comments about 'respect' from one whom had shown disrespect.
There are far more imporatnt issues in Middletown than those whom do others bidding, and those who oppose it. From what I've gathered, it appears many believe the levy in May should be defeated, and the tax increase defeated which comes about in a few years. Others have suggested petitions to elminate current members. I'm with you on strategy: starve the beast.
As for 'outing', it appears obvious the one slamming Mr. Self is a city employee or has close ties, maybe even a council person. I'm worrying about what can be done immediately to rectify the mess, but I don't like the drive by assassin approach.

"Murdock" is very selective in her protocol and outrage, after the way that she has taunted Mr.Self.

What an ironic post by MURDOCK, the blogger who excoriated out of disdain and disrepect for Mr. Self, with no consideration and common decency to avoid exposing hospitalization, albeity physical, mental, or both, has the audicity to post such commentary regarding Mr. Armbruster. Talk about calling the kettle black! MURDOK, your unmerciful attacks on Mr. Self and his character, integrity, and suggestion he was an individual whom needed to be committed is without pale in rudeness and common decency, and yet you protect and apparently do the bidding for the city and council. You are to John Edwards, the former Senator, the ndrew Young, the surrogate who did the bidding for him while taking the sword in his love child mess. I likewsie, have no professional respect for Mr. Armbruster, nor the vast majority of city council and city leadership. It is associated with one denominator: incompetence and lack of meaning ful performance and progress. I found it hard to believe Mr. Becker is a final 5 candidate for Warren Cty Emergency. Another double dipper awaiting the next dip, what disgust I find in this policy. Anyone who would have the mean spirit to make a public comment about a man's heatlth in the manner you did is not desreving of a response nor respect. Now go bury your head back in the sand with your friends whom bidding you conduct in drive by shooting assassination.

I'm curious Murdock. Ever hear of freedom of speech? Ever hear the phrase about the people elected working for and doing what the people who elected them want them to do, indicating that the people are the boss because they can decide whether that person stays in office or not? Last time I looked, the boss can do darn near anything they want to people who report to them. Been on the receiving end of that several times. I said Jimmy Armbruster out of disrespect. I never have respected him. Good Lord, look at his performance and contributions to the city since being in that council seat. My perogative on the opinion about him, just as it's yours concerning my behavior. Everyone's entitled to their opinion.
As to calling the President of the United States Barry- haven't done that but could at any time. My perogative as a citizen with free speech, as a voter who can help remove him from or keep him in office. I've said a he-- of alot worse about the Bushes, the Boehners, the Pelosi's and the Reid's of the political world than to call them by their first names. My perogative- free speech just as you have. No, hardly friends with Armbruster nor do I know him from childhood. Simply no respect for him. You wrote "It's one thing to disagree with an elected official, but it's a completely different thing to be disrespectful and condescending when talking to or about that elected official......"- Are you kidding me? I'm a product of the baby boomer generation- you know, the people who love to raise he-- and protest, and lived through the social unrest and the demonstrated unpopularity with government. Kent State comes to mind. Protests against the Vietnam War come to mind. Draft card burning comes to mind. My generation defined disrespect and condescending attitudes toward phony government officials, policies and authority. Thank God, the "Leave It To Beaver"/ believe everything the government tells you days died with the advent of my generation. Gotta earn respect to get it. It's not just given because you occupy a seat behind some government desk, bud. Why does such an insignificant thing as a name reference bother you? Does it really matter? Just looking for an argument? If so, you've approached the right person. I love to argue! Oh.... thank you for encouraging me to be more respectful of those that were elected....... When they do something as an elected official to earn my respect, I will acknowledge them. So far, they have failed. Murdock.... you have a nice day! |

Im curious VietVet...are you and Mr. Armbruster close, personal friends or do you know him from childhood??
I only ask because you always refer to him as 'Jimmy Armbruster' and I've never heard anyone else call him that or refer to him using that name?! Unless Ive missed roll-call, Ive always heard him referred to as MR. ARMBRUSTER.....NOT JIMMY ARMBRUSTER!!!!!!!!!
So tell me, do you refer to him as Jimmy Armbruster due to the closeness of your relationship, or are you trying to be funny OR is it just out of plain disrespect???
Im only assuming it's out of disrespect and if that's the case, Im very sorry that's how you were raised..........but please correct me if Im wrong!!!!
It's one thing to disagree with an elected official, but it's a completey different thing to be disresepectful and condesending when talking to or about that elected official.......with that said, I assume you refer to the President of the United States as PRESIDENT BARRY OBAMA OR do you just call him BARRY?????????????
Mr. Armbruster was re-elected to his 2nd term this past November and is there for another 4 years whether you like it or not......Im sorry the candidate you backed (Gary Barge) was defeated AGAIN by Mr. Armbruster, but he is the elected representative of Ward 1- So move on!!
I encourage you to be more respectful of those that were elected BY THE PEOPLE to REPRESENT THE PEOPLE!!!!!

Good luck in March when you (hopefully) will put one of Middletown's most arrogant ever senior City staff members in their place at the Historic Pioneer Cemetery hearing in Columbus!

I must tell you that the first complaint phone calls I received when they started locking the gates at the cemetery at 3pm was from a lady who takes her 3 big dogs for a run in the cemetery every day. In fact many people run their dogs at the cemetery…They have 11 acres...Why do we need a doggie park when they can't take care of the cemetery?

Mr. Kidd:
RIGHT you are!!!
Of course the dog park must be locked at night!!! I forgot all about that. So, If there is no one available to lock or unlock the cemetery After 3:00 pm or on weekends, the dog park would have to keep the SAME HOURS!!!

Mike, I think that the first thing the city would do is have at least three studies done. All studies would have to be done by California companies at a cost of $40,000 to $100,000 each (the reason for three studies is so they can chose the one that most nearly agrees with their ideas). Next they would have to have the braintrusts in the city building set up all the rules that you wrote about. Then there would have to be a new dept. set up and a dept. head hired. Then they would have to hire a dept. director, an assistant dept. director, an assistant for the assistant, a dept. manager, an assistant dept. manager etc., etc., etc. Then they would have to contract out the rule enforcment to keep the riff-raff out. Then they would contract out the food service and sales of clean-up supplies. Then they would have to hire another police officer to cite anyone not following all their rules. Then they would have to hire someone to lock up at 3:00 P.M. (You can tell from the cemetery that it could not be open after 3:00 P.M. So a free dog park run by the City of Middletown should not cost more than $5 to $10 million a year and be open five to six hours a day five days a week (again check the cemetery hours).

As Far as the "champaign and caviar crowd": I don't think that this property is zoned properly for a use such as this, so before this can pass the zoning board, I'm sure that crowd will have Kohler include regulations that restrict the facility to only purebred pooches registered with the American Kennel Club. After all, the owners of curs, mutts, strays, and other "common" type animals can't expect to have those brutes mingle with the high-class hounds, nor will the elite who want to meet want the commoners using "their" restrooms or "refreshment area". And who knows what kind of riff-raff from the lower class areas of Sunset Park may think that they may be entitled to use these faciilities to buy a cold drink or answer a nature call. Nope, Kohler will have to see to it that restrictions are in place.
Next, I am sure that we will be seeing law suits filed charging discrimination, and justifiably so, at least in my view. After all, cats have rights, too, and this is blatantly unfair to felines!!! How dare city council favor dogs with such benefits while cats continue to suffer, and NO, seperate but equal facilitites will NOT suffice!!! Cats MUST have completely equal access to ALL animal parks in our fair city without fear of harassment, threats, or violence, either physical, vocal, or emotional.
As far as AJ, I don't understand what I should be getting on his case about. I'm sure that Rev. Tyus and his buds will look at this just as they looked at Sunset Pool, and they will be telling AJ: "No dog park at Sunset unless Douglass gets one also." And this time free bus passes will not work---only service dogs are permitted on public transit vehicles.

Well, Well Well Jimbo! Guess with the pool being filled in it would be less work for the park dept! More time for you t sleep! This is the stupidist thing I have ever heard! And as for AJ, it woule be an asset to the city? Are you crazy or just afraid to make a stqatement on your own! Maybe you just needed more time to study it and you might have voted the same way! We are already the S... of the area now we will smell like too! Council needs to go all of them!!
xx
11:54 AM, 2/9/2010 I live near sunset, and i think it is a great idea. We don't have anywhere in the area we can legally take our dogs off their leashes. Dogs want to run and play. I think that as long as it's free to use, it is a great use of that space.
There are very few small children in this neighborhood and a lot of the families over here take their kids to the Country Club on Aberdeen because the pool has become unsafe. LovesDogs and Pools
11:54 AM, 2/9/2010 And along the same lines:
First lady Michelle Obama says President Barack Obama "has done a phenomenal job his first year". r2d2
11:50 AM, 2/9/2010 I have two dogs and love them dearly, but they do not need a dog park. This is just crazy!! when will council wake up?
You wanna hear the truth abou this subject and other middletown news. Then look no futher than MiddletownUSA.com love me dog
11:41 AM, 2/9/2010 Becky, that is a great idea! I also saw that article in Bark magazine about the indoor dog park! I thought it would be a great idea especially for older folks that can't walk in the cold as well.
my dog lvs it
11:07 AM, 2/9/2010 Looking From The outside- we, who have lived in Middletown from the late 40's to current, are as shocked as you are at the way this town is being operated. For some strange reason, we keep electing incompetent leadership and clowns who don't want to address the real, serious problems we have. So... we keep getting insignificant stuff like this that is talked about instead of making attempts toward solving our real problems that is preventing this town from prospering.
It's Hard To Watch
10:59 AM, 2/9/2010 Flower post sitting around town and now a doggy park. By god Middletown will become the jewel of the Miami Valley.
r2d2
10:51 AM, 2/9/2010 What a joke!!
Why would you get rid of a pool for a dog park? Public pools are an attraction to a community for young families. When things turn around in this town having the pool will be an asset. A dog park will be a huge mistake. What a waste of money...it is waste like this that keeps me from returning to Middletown. It is really sad because there is so much potential for Middletown and your leaders just keep missing the mark. Looking from the outside
10:38 AM, 2/9/2010 what a great idea! I read BARK magazine, and read an article there a bout an indoor dog park in Dallas. That would be a great thing to do with the Mall if it closes. that appeals to me right now, with all the snow.
Becky
10:21 AM, 2/9/2010 And you people keep voting for these people. With every thing that is going on!! middletown going down the tubes no jobs he is wanting to spend money on a dog park.I so hope times turn and i can sell my house one day soon so i can get as far away from Middletown as i can
dave
10:10 AM, 2/9/2010 You got to be kidding me. Why don't someone of financial means aka Chris Carter take on this endeavor. Cincinnati Pool Mgmt does a great job. My daughter had her first job there last year and was hoping for her second. It is close to home and they had great attendance when the weather was suitable for swimming. We should host competitions like Miamisburg to bring in money. Lease it for b-days, group outtings, etc. The dogs have plenty of areas to walk but our children have no where to go.
Sue
10:02 AM, 2/9/2010 This doggy park idea will be a monumental achievement for Council. This event will eclipse any in many years. People will come from out of state to see this 8th wonder of the world. It will do as much to put Middletown on the map as our abundant Section 8 program has for attraction. As Jack Gordon says, "It flat out just don't get any better that this". Thanks Council!!!
Oh Yeah!
9:58 AM, 2/9/2010 Its about time they did something good out of that pool. I agree with the lot of ya, a small fee to have the bags and the gloves for the people to clean up after their dogs. Must have all med. records for the said dogs to be able to get the membership. And Im not saying that the membership be chargable but only for the clean up materials. Make sure all dogs are well mannered, and not a mean one. Bout time Middletown, lets get this ball rolling for our best friends and companions.
Kimberly
9:42 AM, 2/9/2010 There is an occasional dog dropping seen at Smith Park, but I'd invite council members to take a pleasant walk around the path and experience first hand what a thousand geese can do to 100 yard stretches of the path.
John
9:37 AM, 2/9/2010 Stellar, Middletown, Stellar!! While I am all about treating my dog right, I get the same benefits walking the neighborhood with her, baggie in hand, and saying hello to my fellow neighbors. I really wish they could have found a way to keep the pool, I really am showing my age, but took my first swim lessons there, so kinda a sentimental value when I pass by, love seeing families and kids enjoying the pool on a hot summer day..as well as my own, but the mighty council has spoken..wow
whatever
9:34 AM, 2/9/2010 IS THE THE BEST CITY COUNCAL CAN COME UP WITH? IT JUST PROVES MIDDLETOWN HAS GONE TO THE DOGS,
GREAT JOB, MAYBE ARMBUSTER WILL WANT THE JOB OF KEEPING THE PARK CLEAN, popper scooper
8:57 AM, 2/9/2010 It took a retreat to come up with this?? We have a pool, that's in a PARK, and their idea is to fill the pool with dirt and turn it into a park??? Only in Middletown.
It figures
8:56 AM, 2/9/2010 Ya know...I wonder how many of you jerks who have nothing to say but put-downs to anything not to your 100% liking ..... If you were didn't hide behind the blog curtain with your anonymous blog handles. I wonder how much you'd have to say if you came to council and spoke in front of the TVM camera's, wrote a letter to the editor with your name on it or even had the guts to use your real name in this comment page. What a bunch of weenies.
Rick Mahue
8:55 AM, 2/9/2010 Along with a baggie dispenser, may I recommend that a small fee be charged for joining the dog park and that will keep out any persons that don't keep up with the health of their dogs. Too many ''diseases'' have turned up in a lot of dog parks ..
lvmydog
8:39 AM, 2/9/2010 There are dog parks spreading around the USA. It is a place of socializing for not only the dogs, but also their people. People coming together who might never otherwise meet. If the pool is not being used and is cost prohibitive it becomes an expensive eyesore and we need to begin thinking "out of the box." Bag dispensers are at the gates of the parks for easy clean-up.
DW Dianne Gerber
8:26 AM, 2/9/2010 A DOG PARK!!!!Great now there will be more trash to clean up. I guarantee you that it will not be the upstanding citizens visiting the dog park. It will be the irresponsible citizens who will leave their poop, cig. butts, beer cans, etc. Could we please not spend money on something that will cause the city another black eye?
EAL
8:08 AM, 2/9/2010 Now now now people of Middletown, dont be so quick to judge our city fathers about the dog park at sunset pool VS creating jobs- there WILL be new jobs created for city workers.... POOPER SCOOPERS! I just hope they do more good than the city street sweepers of which are u-s-e-l-e-s-s
Rubberband_Man
8:03 AM, 2/9/2010 GOOD. Fill it in. I'd MUCH rather have a dog park in my neighborhood than to have all these dropped-off delinquents vandalizing and running wild. This is the BEST idea council has had in YEARS.
HaHaHa
7:54 AM, 2/9/2010 GOOD. Fill in the pool. Convert it into a dog park. I'd MUCH rather have a dog park in my neighborhood than to have all the dropped-off delinquents vandalizing and running wild. This is the BEST idea council has had in years.
HaHaHa
7:51 AM, 2/9/2010 C'mon.....seriously......a doggy park? Is the article an attempt to get us punked or is Middletown bringing back Candid Camera to fool the citizens and create laughs? Is this what Armbruster and council want to discuss in their meetings? A dog park discussion has more priority than a discussion to move former street repair money out of the General Fund back to street repair? More priority than to discuss how to reduce Section 8 numbers? How to attract more jobs? More businesses? Village idiots.
What?
7:25 AM, 2/9/2010 As sure as the sun rises, there are goofballs who scream "fix the roads"! Well, council can't do much about that until the tax base improves. So coming up with INEXPENSIVE ideas, like converting Sunset Pool, isn't bad. I don't think I'd go there but it doesn't mean it's not worth considering.
Bill
7:13 AM, 2/9/2010 Our efforts could be focused in different areas but a dog park is not a bad idea. If certain citizens of Middletown would follow the guidelines it would be okay. I have been to Smith Park with my kids and have seen people walk their dogs right into the play area and water park where it is clearly labeled 'No Pets'. This would be an accident or fight waiting to happen. Clean all the dirty diapers and garbage up at Smith Park and then move on to s**t up another area.
always watchin
6:36 AM, 2/9/2010 I am sure glad Middletown needs a dog park worse than jobs and street repairs!!!!!!!!!!! A.J. Smith you're a disappointment, fresh blood with worse than no ideas!!! Where's Laubach, haven't heard a word from him. What's Laubach's view?? Armburster needs to stick to flowers....
Ray
5:41 AM, 2/9/2010 I'm pretty much convinced that MIddletown is incapable of pulling off anything that is exciting or that works. Too bad. It was a wonderful place to live 50 years ago.
Sara
5:34 AM, 2/9/2010 My husband and several other men/women already meet there to let the dogs run. The dogs know each other and each owner. Our dogs even anticipate the phone call for their play date (no kidding). It is a relaxed atmosphere as the dogs can run free and the owners catch up on current events. I wish we could come together and somehow or other have both, a pool and dog park. We have met people we otherwise wouldn't have. I think this is great for our community.
Ginger
5:15 AM, 2/9/2010 I think the dog park would be good, so long as the dogs are lic. and types that are known to attack are not allowed. Would this be a central place for the animal control officer to play "lifeguard", yes it would be good. With that said, I will tell you, the next time that skinny blackhaired lady with 2 white dogs that walks up flemming and allows her dogs to leave droppings in yards, I will be taking my 2 huge dogs to her yard and leaving her a mess. These kind of people are lazy with no respect
Average Joe

11:17 PM, 2/8/2010 AJ Smith's ward would be perfect, it is already a *****y ward..........

11:11 PM, 2/8/2010 Are you going to get on AJ's case for his comments about the dog park? Where is Mike Presta talking about the city catering to the champagne and caviar crowd?
I can't wait to see how the MiddletownUSA apologists spin this one. There's no need for a dog park. This seems to be a waste of Council's time. Attention MiddletownUSA fans
11:11 PM, 2/8/2010 Now this is a shi*ty stupid mistake, nice neighborhood turned to a *****y neighborhood....

11:08 PM, 2/8/2010 you have got to be kidding a fricking dog park send them to lake mistake with the rest of our fine cities great ideas.....fix our streets we pay the taxes not these crapping animals!!!!

Living to the east of Sunset Park, I can't wait for a warm summer day and the prevailing westerly winds to carry the aromatic, gut-wrenching, acrid smell of dogsh** through the neighborhood. Great for grill-outs!!!!

1.Now this doggy park being used for socializing, will people without dogs be allowed to socialize with those that have dogs while at the park ?
2. Will the park be free or will there be a service fee to cover clean up of excrement & the doggy pool ?
3.And how often if at all will the city police be checking ID tags & dog license at the park ?
4.And if a dog refuses to show ID or a license will he/she be tazed ?
5.Can the city get any HUD funds or other federal government money to help build this park ?
6.And how many jobs will be created and what will the duration of these jobs be while under construction ?
7. Since this will be a dog park will a new commission or board be created to oversee this park ?
8.What will be the annual projected expense of upkeep ?
9.Will city council create a barking ordinance for this park ?
Lots of questions here people, lots and lots of questions.

THIS IS FANTASTIC!!!!! Jimmy Armbruster has taken up the torch for a doggy park, socialization and poop control. He wants to fill in Sunset Pool so the doggies and their owners can "socialize"!!! Oh, this is better than the comedy channel. So, Jimmy, there's not enough land for all the owners and their dogs in and around Sunset Park, that we need to fill in the pool and have the area RIGHT THERE? So, the Park Board has been talking about a doggy park for years? "Anyway you look at it, this city needs some sort of doggy park". You betcha! Gosh, that's an important topic for this town and certainly is way up the list as to dire needs for our community Jimmy! Much more important than road repair, jobs, Section 8 control- no doubt! A "dog friendly zone"? Jimmy suggested that the baby pool could be used to cool off the dogs in the summertime! Could the city hire some doggy water therapy specialists? How about a doggy lifeguard at city expense? Jimmy- you old brainstormer you! Thank goodness for thinking outside the box by the 'Brusterman. Why can't the rest of Council come up with ideas like this? This guy is invaluable on Council and is a diamond among rocks on idea creation. Thanks 1st Ward voters!

I can't wait to see how the MiddletownUSA apologists spin this one.
There's no need for a dog park. This seems to be a waste of Council's time.
