I hope to attend.  I have another meeting scheduled for 8 pm that evening very near there.

I'm still eagerly waiting for Mr. Becker, Picard or Mulligan to invite us MUSA folks to their house (or anywhere for that matter) for a little chat. How about it gentlemen? Care to talk outside council chambers in an informal community meeting?

I have been at every public forum that each of my council members have held except the first one Mr. Laubach had due to an illness.  My home address is 2804 Sherman Avenue and my office is located at 110 Old Street Monore.  Please feel free to stop in anytime you have something you would like to discuss.

Unfortunately, I have not seen you at any of the forums nor have I ever seen you at a Council meeting.  But, of course I don't know who you are since you hide behind a fake name on this blog.

You always have a lot to write about, and you love to critized me, yet I never see you in public expressing those same opinions and until you decide to appear and make yourself known, I gues you will continue to fill these pages and hide behind your fake identity.

Mr. Picard- it would be virtually impossible to determine whether you have seen me at a public forum if YOU CAN'T IDENTIFY ME BY SIGHT. I would be happy to talk to you at your home address, but feel it would not be appropriate to intrude on your business activities at your Monroe address. Not correct to discuss city issues while taking time from your business.

I assure you, I have attended my share of council meetings, Mr. Marconi's "conversation with council" at Java Johnnies and the senior center, Mr. Laubach's senior center meeting, meet the candidates night at the Sorg awhile back, forums, and various other community get-togethers. Unfortunately, I can't attend as often as I would like because my home situation has changed where my focus is needed.

Yes, I have alot to write about and I take pleasure in criticizing not just you, but some of your colleagues if your actions warrant. I choose to have a screen name, as the majority of people do on this forum, because I don't trust the anticipated vindictiveness of this city's leaders. Most of your buddies down at city hall are not to be trusted, nor is the small band of people who have crafted the destruction of this town. If you weren't born and raised here and if you haven't lived in this town during the better times and see the town now, you don't have a clue how frustrating it has been watching your hometown go down the toilet. To me, you are a "johnny come lately" and are not qualified to judge me nor my criticism of this city. You are just a rookie to me as to being a seasoned veteran in this town's past compared to it's present.

Have a good day, Mr. Picard.

Hey Councilman Picard--I thank you for following this forum and contributing(a HUGE step)
Let's break down the percieved barriers between the citizens and our govt.
If you weren't interested in that, or didn't care what was being posted, then you wouldn't be here.
I sincerely appreciate you taking time to answer me in our email exchange last week about the Supthin project. I am sure that you are frustrated by the delays and overall project also.

I sympathize with the new businessman who spoke about the issue last night.
His situation is grim at best.
To your credit--you didn't speak as if the project workers put in 10-hour days surveying and such last week, as was promised. To my credit, as I mentioned to you and Engineering nearly 2 weeks ago, no work resumed until 7/6--the exact date I mentioned.  Other Councilmembers and Admin should give the affected residents and businesses more credibilty when they report on the work effort since they are on the front line of this project each and every day. As for Ms.G and Ms.Scott Jones--they embarrassed themselves with their spin on their perception of the current work effort.

Hope to see you at the up-coming forum, and look forward to your continued participation here.
These are wonderful people posting here, who obviously care deeply about our community.
No reason that meaningful dialogue shouldn't continue on-line, since our Mayor holds firm that Council "is not set up to answer citizens' ?s".

The 2nd Ward Problems

Tall Grass – The house next door has been sitting empty for almost 3 years. The owner purchased the property as a Section 8 rental property and due to his death this and several of his other rental properties have now went into
foreclosure. Later the back door was kicked in and all the copper was stolen. For the first 2 years I trimmed the shrubs, picked up the trash and mowed the grass every week at this property in the hopes it would soon sell. This year I requested that the City mow the grass at this property and now they are out of money again.
Mr. Smith if you drive around the 2nd Ward you will see that many of these properties are sitting empty and haven’t been cleaned up or mowed at all this year.
Why should I have to look at this mess because the city council, home owners or the banks are not willing to do their duty?

Rail Crossings – When I purchased my home the trains were not allowed to blow their horns with in City limits. Now that’s all I hear day and night.
Then Cohen Bros enlarged their business and now we get to add the banging from the crushers all day and all night long and dust an inch thick on our cars and houses.
If in fact you want to close the Grand Ave rail crossing then I suggest that you use this extra money to put up the double gates required at all crossings so the trains do not need to blow their horns within City limits of Middletown like city council promised to do 15 years ago.
    If you close the
Grand Ave
crossing that will mean that all the Cohen Bros trucks will need to use the Woodlawn crossing which has now become a nightmare since the trucks are blocking the street at the entry to Cohen Bros business. Also the light needs to be reset for a longer period at the Woodlawn crossing so we don’t end up in the middle of the intersection because the trucks are blocking the street.

Why has all the noise, dirt and chemicals ended up in the 2nd Ward?

Section 8 Housing – Over the past 20 years the 2nd Ward has become filled with Section 8 Housing with the blessing of City Hall and City Council and our school system…sooo now we have a new plan. If we now reduce Section 8 what will happen to all these homes that are now rented? Will 700 more homes be sitting empty in the 2nd Ward because the owners have walked away? If you drive through the 2nd Ward you will find that many rental properties that are NOT Section 8 properties are the real problem in this neighborhood.
Maybe City Hall needs to take a closer look at ALL the rental stock in Middletown if you really want to clean up Middletown
.

Hmmm...Maybe I need to start a HALL OF SHAME gallery on this site so everyone will be able to see what has really happened to the properties in the 2nd Ward.

Mr. Smith it’s time to clean up all of the 2nd Ward.

Mr. Picard:

With all due respect, you write:

I have been at every public forum that each of my council members have held except the first one Mr. Laubach had due to an illness. My home address is 2804 Sherman Avenue and my office is located at 110 Old Street Monore. Please feel free to stop in anytime you have something you would like to discuss.

I, too, have had some personal issues (out-of-state wedding of my son, and some medical matters) that have precluded my attending the public forums held by council members earlier this year. However, you may recall that I attended some of the public forums held during the campaign last fall. I do plan to attend the forum to be held later this month at Councilwoman Scott-Jones’ residence.

You then write:
Unfortunately, I have not seen you at any of the forums nor have I ever seen you at a Council meeting.

Unfortunately, you must have been distracted or you would have seen me at some of the Council meetings since you have been on council.

I do admit that I no longer attend nearly every one, as I used to do for a couple of years about a decade ago.

You then write:

But, of course I don't know who you are since you hide behind a fake name on this blog.

Well, my “fake name on this blog” (Mike_Presta) is the same as my real name (Mike Presta) without the underscored space. I use the underscored space not to try to hide or to confuse anyone, but only to try to expose any poseurs who may try to impersonate me as they have done in the past. I post under my real name because, in the past, city council members have said that they refuse to take any comments on the internet seriously because the posters use “the cloak of anonymity” to hide their true agendas. I have also been waiting for over ten years for anyone to reveal any “hidden agenda” that I supposedly have. I will continue to wait, while they waste time trying to find what does not exist.

You then write:

You always have a lot to write about, and you love to critized me, yet I never see you in public expressing those same opinions and until you decide to appear and make yourself known, I gues you will continue to fill these pages and hide behind your fake identity.

Yes, I do have a lot to write about, but only because events give me a lot to write about!  I am sure that local officials would prefer that we all remain silent and just accept their actions, right or wrong, and do as they say.  Dictators and tyrants throughout history have felt that way, but, from the very beginning of this great experiment in democracy, the citizenry has had a duty NOT to behave in that way.

I can speak only for myself, but I assure you that i do NOT "love to criticize" you, or to criticize anyone else. I would rather praise you, but first you must do something worthy of praise.   However, when you deserve criticism, then criticize you I will, and I will criticize you right now:

You certainly have seen me “in public expressing those same opinions” and I continue to do so today, and will continue to do so as long as I have the wherewithal to do so.

I “decide[d] to appear and make your[my]self known” over ten years ago, and I see no reason now “to fill these pages and hide behind your [a] fake identity.”

If you have any questions, any questions at all, about why I say, do, or write ANYTHING, please feel free to ask me. You can ask those questions here, on this public forum, or you can call me at home (my address is a matter of public record, as I have given it numerous times when I have APPEARED AT CITY COUNCIL MEETINGS, not more than five feet away from you!)

You seem to be painting with a broad brush, counselor, as there are several others who post here under their real names, and who have also appeared at council meetings and various public forums.

As for those who prefer to remain anonymous, they certainly have good reason to do so, as the vindictive nature of Middletown’s city government is legendary. Nearly everyone who is a business owner inside the City of Middletown; an employee of any business inside the limits of the City of Middletown; or a resident of the city of Middletown has legitimate reason to fear this city’s government.

Regards,

M. D. (Mike) Presta

Mr. Picard,

By the way, I do both commend and THANK you for coming here and inviting comment.  Who knows?  If you address the comments here, within the bounds allowed by your schedule (I actually DO understand the demands of the "real world" of business and commerce.) I will even PRAISE you, if praise is earned.

Regards,
MDP
