I have heard from a friend that owns a store in the mall that a letter was sent out to everyone saying the mall had been sold. I am trying to get my hands on one of the letters, could be an interesting read.

Anyone else heard this?

Will be interesting to see who it was sold it, if sold.  Local?  Another national mall management company?  A slumlord looking to make a quick buck..

Cinci State should have bought it. Close to I-75 for commuters. Long corridors for classroom layouts. Easy access to numerous restaurants, banks and amenities for students and would have helped boost business for the restaurants. Plenty of lighted parking for students. Shipping docks to receive lab equipment, etc. Admin offices tucked back by Sears. Better than the trek for miles to reach the downtown. Not gonna happen. Will be interesting what the new owner does to develop it properly.

I'm guessing someone will take a stab at the open-air mall concept.

It would be hard pressed to do worse business than what is currently out there. That place is a ghost town, it reminds me of the City Centre Mall.

they should do an open-air reonovation and call it "West Chester Mall" or "The Greene Mall" and watch all the confused customers within 30 minutes of here flock to it.

Maybe we can build a transit system from the mall to downtown so you can park by the highway, go to school downtown, back to the mall, shop, then drive home. Yeah, that's the ticket!!! lol

The mall will be demo'd at a cost of $6.5 million and the 56 acres turned into greenspace. As part of the "gateway" to the city a large fountain will be erected on the center of the property and the fountain will be dedicated to a city father/leader to be named later.

122 will be re-routed through the greenspace and a 5 mph speed limit will be posted so all tourist will have a chance to take in the scenery. On the north side of the property a large mausoleum will be built for the internment of the city's greatest leader's.Bench's will be sold to place in front of the mausoleum for a donation of $6,500 each, and every citizen will be required to donate and if you can not afford to make the cash donation it will be added as a  lein on your property.Statue's will be erected to the present sitting council members and city hall leader's.During your daily prayers you will be no longer facing city hall but you will face this greenspace.
No more democrats no more republicans, vote Constitution Party !!

Look for any sane developer to back out of the deal once he finds out that:

  • The mall sign must be demolished and cannot be replaced with any signs visible from I-75.
  • The entire mall property, including any commercial structures, must be screened from visibility of passing traffic by a solid line of expensive mature trees and evergreen shrubbery.
  • Any new structures must be disguised to appear as upscale, single-family, colonial residences, and painted Williamsburg blue.
  • Any new development or redevelopment of the property will take at least three years to get past Middletown’s “business friendly” terrorist red tape brigade at city hall (led by Kommandant Kohler).

Well that's just terrific Hermes and Mike.......you two gentlemen just stole Marty's thunder on his plans toward the development of our beloved gateway(with fountain by the way). When will you realize that he gets all the credit here and that you malcontents need to keep your thoughts to yourselves? You two go off on a tangent and start throwing out all of these suggestions, willy-nilly, taking all the excitement away from any future announcements by our illustrious city leaders. There goes any semblence of a celebration, there goes the boxed wine and paper cups, the photo opportunities, there goes any excitement when announced by YOUR hometown newspaper when all of this comes to fruition. Just swell. I wish you guys would stop mocking everything Marty, Judith, Leslie and our fast track econ. devel. department is doing nowadays. Patience....trust us....we have a plan.

Today's Journal-

MIDDLETOWN — Interest in the Towne Mall may be increasing as at least one developer may be considering the property for redevelopment.

City Manager Judy Gilleland confirmed the mall, owned by CBL & Associates of Chattanooga, Tenn., has been discussed by at least one developer. However, she said there has been no firm proposal.

“The city remains anxious to support a project that will provide a redevelopment opportunity at the mall location,” Gilleland said.

I have an idea Judith....why doesn't the city buy the mall with taxpayer money, rehab it with taxpayer money, find someone who will potentially use it, invite them to town and walk around and assess the situation and seal the deal with a handshake and no firm contract to occupy the place? Hmm- sound familiar? That way we can really ramp up our inventory of city owned properties with another opportunity to build our mothballed inventory.

Have you guys forgotten that the city already has development plans for Towne Mall? A few years ago city hall paid $40,000 for different options for the redevelopment of Towne Mall. They had four different options, but all options had more section 8 housing as the centerpiece. Of course the city didn't own the mall and had been a big part of the decline, but the $40,000 expense was well justified.
Warning to any developers: The zoning may be changed so that retail or any other business may not be allowed at that location. Think of the restaurant that wanted to go in where "Wings and Rings" was (across from the Post Office) only to learn that the change in zoning did not allow a restaurant at that location. Of course, by paying a bribe & kissing the feet of certain city employees, a variance can be obtained to allow a restaurant to go into a previous restaurant. Now thats business friendly!
Government is not the answer to problems, government is the problem.

Interesting Nick. Why didn't the city allow another restaurant to go in where Wings and Rings was? How can it be zoned for restaurant for one and not for another? Wonder what the criteria/reasoning was for the change in zoning? What is it zoned for now?

So the city would rather have a vacant building sitting at that location rotting than to collect business taxes on an occupied, legitimate building with a business that has people employed? Rather ignorant isn't it?

"The Planning Commission met on March 9 to review proposals and hold public hearings for a restaurant at 401 N. Verity Parkway, a thrift store at 555 N. Verity Parkway, and a solvent processing operation at 2908 Cincinnati-Dayton Rd. All three proposals were approved."

Vet, The restaurant was approved after going through the Planning Commission and a public hearing. The reason for this was the great idea to rezone only Verity and Central Avenue for business. This building is on Verity but out of the small section zoned for business. This was another "business friendly" way to get more money, as you must pay to apply for a variance. As you know, we must do something to slow down the massive flow of businesses, jobs and people wanting to move into our "formerly downtown" area.
Government is not the answer to problems, government is the problem.

Gilleland makes $132,000 a year to spend her time and thousands of taxpayer dollars remodeling her office and handing her boy friends art work at City Hall.

Them uses taxpayer built facility Pendleton to throw birthday party for her boy friend.

Where is the out rage?
