Sherrod Brown Backing Economic Recovery Funds For Ohio

Ohio U.S. Sherrod Brown says he's hopeful Congress will soon approve a $500 billion economic recovery coverage.

As the debate continues, Senator Brown is lobbying hard to make sure the Buckeye State gets its fair share of the money.

He says a formula is being developed to prioritize projects that help repair the state's infrastructure and create permanent jobs.

"We don't want special individual projects," Brown said. "We don't want earmarks."

The money could go for roads, bridges, water and sewer systems, light rail, high speed trains, mass transit and a host of other projects.

Senator Brown says he's pushing for a "Buy American" provision in the legislation.

"I don't want to see these stimulus dollars being spent buying electronic equipment made in China," he said.

"I want this money being spent to buy from American contractors.  American Steel. American workers. American companies -- small businesses especially -- creating jobs and keeping that money in Cincinnati. Keeping it in Batavia or keeping it in Middletown or Lebanon," the Senator added.

The Senator also stated he's hoping stimulus dollars can also be appropriated for Clinton County and Wilmington to help lessen the economic impact when DHL ends domestic ground and air service at the Air Park there on January 30.
