When the people fear their government, there is tyranny; when the government fears the people, there is liberty.

Why is Donnie Owens making so much money ? Why are police officers making so much ? In a town like Middeltown a cop should not be making more than $50,000 a year and these guys are making a bundle ! No wonder this town is in the shape it's in and allegedly has no money. During finacial hard times all this big time pay should be slashed to bare minimums. Just another slap in the face for the citizens.

I must disagree regarding police (and firefighters, even though you did not mention them).

First, I think (I am not positive) that much of the pay reflected on the lists is overtime pay.  Middletown police officers are forced to work excessive overtime because, in my opinion, they are understaffed.  Why I do not know, since I thought that the "Public Safety Payroll Tax Increase" was supposed to remedy that.

Second, these people do a job that I would not want.  And I certainly would not want it for $50K/year.  Go out and about late at night and early in the morning, and see some of the situations that these people have to deal with, and not just in your neighborhood, but throughout the city.

Just my opinion, but I think that most of these people earn every cent that they make.

Don Owens and Dennis Sorrell retired and I believe their saved up sick and vacation pay is included in that amount, making it higher.
