Liberty and Tyranny

A Conservative Manifesto

By Mark R. Levin
(Threshold Editions, Hardcover, 9781416562856, 245pp.)

Description

Conservative talk radio's fastest-growing superstar is also a "New York Times" bestselling phenomenon: the author of the groundbreaking critique of the Supreme Court, "Men in Black," and the deeply personal dog lover's memoir "Rescuing Sprite," Mark R. Levin now delivers the book that characterizes both his devotion to his more than 5 million listeners and his love of our country and the legacy of our Founding Fathers: "Liberty and Tyranny" is Mark R. Levin's clarion call to conservative America, a new manifesto for the conservative movement for the 21st century.

In the face of the modern liberal assault on Constitution-based values, an attack that has steadily snowballed since President Roosevelt's New Deal of the 1930s and resulted in a federal government that is a massive, unaccountable conglomerate, the time for re-enforcing the intellectual and practical case for conservatism is "now." Conservative beliefs in individual freedoms do in the end stand for liberty for all Americans, while liberal dictates lead to the breakdown of civilized society -- in short, tyranny. Looking back to look to the future, Levin writes "conservatism is the antidote to tyranny precisely because its principles "are" our founding principles." And in a series of powerful essays, Levin lays out how conservatives can counter the liberal corrosion that has filtered into every timely issue affecting our daily lives, from the economy to health care, global warming, immigration, and more -- and illustrates how change, as seen through the conservative lens, is always prudent, and always an enhancement to individual freedom.

As provocative, well-reasoned, robust, and informed as his on-air commentary, Levin's narrative will galvanize readers to begin a new era in conservative thinking and action. "Liberty and Tyranny" provides a philosophical, historical, and practical framework for revitalizing the conservative vision and ensuring the preservation of American society.

What's happening here? Have we just become the book club for the right? I love the pitch that Obama (in office 8 months) is some how leading us all down the path to a marxist/socialist never-never land. Wasn't he just elected by the free choice of the American people to mop up after (the 8 years) of Bush and his failed policys? Even though I have a lot more to say, I'll leave it here....and wait for the tidal wave of hate speach to come down on me from the town-meeting folks. It's a fair question. Have a nice day! Big%20smile

Take care 2000+ and watch what you say on this site less you incure the wrath of ultra Conservatism. Your side is outnumbered 10:1. One negative comment about anything concerning the right wing Republican camp and you will receive the proverbial tongue-lashing for attacking the folks with all the answers. They are the chosen ones (self-appointed, of course). It is futile to place yourself in a political debate here. Too many folks on the right. You won't win them over and they won't make a dent in you changing your beliefs. It is a stalemate. The country has been and will continue to be polarized by the hatred between the two parties and the people who support them. I am guilty of harboring the hatred also.

Vet that is the difference between you and me, I see no reason to hate anyone.  I don't hate Obama as a person it is his policies and actions that I disagree with.  I don't hate Dems, Liberals, whatever you want to call them I just disagree with their politics and how they want to run this country.

<deep sigh...>  Vet: How many times have I told you that there aren't two pinches of goat doo-doo worth of difference between the two major parties, and that one of the main reasons that I like you is that YOU are nearly as CONSERVATIVE as I am...but you just don't realize it???
Most of us that post here give everyone a fair shot, as long as they receive the same.  Heck, most of us even like Spiderman, and NO ONE can figure out HIS politics!!! LOL LOL

So don't try to scare 2000+!  You know that we'll back anyone that we believe is right on an issue, and try to support them with facts.  Similarly, we will oppose anyone who we believe is wrong on an issue, and try to change their mind with facts.

At least that is what I will do, and I can only speak definitively for myself.

This forum is a blessing for concerned citizens like each of you.  The freedom of speech is always to be treasured.  From the little that I have observed, I believe that all persons posting here do have a basic respect for one another.  This is democracy in action.

I vote issues that concern the welfare of my country not politicians. If they open their mouths they are lying.

Unfortunately politicians are not one issue wonders.  Most of the time you have to vote for a politician who you agree with most of the time.  McCain was a prime example of this.

Pacman- I understand your stance on the subject of hate between the parties and your lack of hatred for the Dems- just their policies. For me, it seems that this country is ready to implode over disagreements between the party philosophies. The health care debate is a perfect example where things are getting out of hand. See it each night on the news, on radio shows and on the TV talk shows. Only fair that as you previously posted pro Bush articles here, that you post anti-Obama articles now.

Mike- Yes, depending on the subject, I may go to the Conservative side. Perhaps it's not the Conservative principals that I dislike as much as some people within the Republican party. In my opinion, some people in this party come across as extremely arrogant and too "country- clubbish/corporate friendly" for my taste. Obviously, this occurs in both parties but IMO it seems to be more "epidemic" with the Repubs. Then, up pops a Harry Reid or a Nancy Pelosi- problem children to say the least that dispells that theory. There's something about people like Cheney, both Bushes, Reagan, O'Reilly, Limbaugh, Coulter, Malkin, and others like them that make me want to put my foot through the TV screen when I TRY to listen to them and their spin. Coulter brings the hate to the surface real fast for me with Limbaugh running neck and neck. Just don't like their arrogance and "I have all the answers" attitude. As for supplying facts to back up statements made, some sources of the "facts", depending on subject matter, are supplied by some posters on this site, using information provided by media that is not necessarily unbiased. Getting information from FOX or from MSNBC/CNN and the writers thereof, is no doubt skewed. How does one determine that they are providing truthful, unbias, facts-only data with the sources available? Isn't there just a little bias written into all news articles? JMO

And those people who "think they know everything" are especially irritating to folks like you and I who actually do!!  Big%20smile LOL

Nary any one soul has a corner of the market of truth.  Hear and be heard with an open mind and heart could be a starting point.  Citizens unite.
