Its that time of year again, kids all over the country are getting ready to return to school for another nine months of liberal indoctrination. What a better way to kick off a year of Obama worship than for the man himself to broadcast a speech aimed at school-aged children. Not only that, but there’s going to be a 30-minute Barack, LeBron and Kelly Clarkson back-to-school special on BET, MTV, VH1, CMT, Comedy Central, Spike TV and Nickelodeon. Fantastic! Go team Barack!

The speech will be broadcast live on the White House website at 1pm EST September 8th, so it’ll be handy to stream it live into every single classroom across the country. Topics of Obama’s speech will include, personal responsibility, civic duty, and citizenship. To go along with the speech teachers are going to be getting a “menu of classroom activities” and this one for the 7-12 grade crowd, to go along with the speech. One of the creepier questions on that list is: “What is the president asking me to do?” I’m sorry but kids are kids, they shouldn’t be doing anything but learning some reading, writing and arithmetic and playing outside. Call me old fashioned, call me crazy, but the pre-k through 6th grade crowd shouldn’t have many responsibilities other than being a kid. Another question in that made me pause was from the 7-12 grade teaching plan, “What are your strengths? At what are you successful as a person/student?” Um….listen, I’m all for goal making and all that jazz, but I just get creeped out by the fact that the government is encouraging students to think of what they’re “good at”. Like there’s going to be some sort of crazy job filing system where we’re all going to get placed in a job based on our skills, not by choice. Oh…is that reaching? Probably not in this 1984 society. The Department of Education is also going to be doing a video contest, where students K-12 are to submit a 2 minute video explaining why education is important and how education will help them to achieve their dreams. Of course, when you submit your kiddos video, you/he/she will need to register your information, Notice of Proposed Information Collection Requests.

I don’t know about you guys, but this just reeks of creepiness. I get a faint smell of Hitler’s youth and China’s young pioneers. Not only that, but many kids, especially those in public schools, think of the president as a king, where they must do as they’re told. I can see this becoming similar to the D.A.R.E. program where kids would go home and preach to their parents about how bad a glass of wine was for your health and explain how cigar smoke was going to kill everybody, well I did anyway, perhaps I was an exception.

If you have a child in school, public or private, I suggest you talk with his/her teacher this week, (when they usually have a “meet the teacher” type events) and explain to them your wishes as the indoctrination season begins. I have a feeling this is only the beginning, and keep in mind, we have two and a half more school years to go through with this guy. Be proactive in your schools and with your kids, because clearly that’s the only way to slow the process down.

White House Withdraws Call for Students to 'Help' Obama

President Obama's plan to speak to the nation's schoolchildren in a video address next week erupted into controversy as critics claimed he was trying to indoctrinate America's kids.

FOXNews.com

Thursday, September 03, 2009

The Obama administration is rethinking its course recommendations for students ahead of President Obama's address to the the nation's schoolchildren next week, rewriting its suggestions to teachers for student assignments on how to "help the president."

White House aides said the language was supposed to be an inspirational, pro-education message to America's youths, but its unintended consequences were evident.

Among the activities initially suggested for pre-K to 6th grade students was to "write letters to themselves about what they can do to help the president."

Another assignment for students after hearing the speech was to discuss what "the president wants us to do."

The suggestion about writing letters has since been changed to: "Write letters to themselves about how they can achieve their short-term and long-term education goals. These would be collected and redistributed at an appropriate later date by the teacher to make students accountable to their goals."

White House spokesman Tommy Vietor said the changes to the language are intended to make the lesson plans clearer. He added that the speech is not a policy speech, but is intended to encourage kids to work hard and commit to school.

The speech is "about the value of education and the importance of staying in school as part of his effort to dramatically cut the dropout rate," Vietor said.

The Washington Times was first to report. Thursday that the plan was being reconsidered. Presidential aides also acknowledged to the newspaper that they helped the U.S. Education Department write the suggested assignments, which stirred criticism by many who say Obama is trying to indoctrinate the education system.

While I do agree it's pathetic to think the president can't address students but if it was on some other level perhaps.

Maybe we've all become to paranoid because we are so use to eight years of Bush & Cheney.

First let me say I did not vote for Obama and most of his ideas scare me. I think his radical, socialist plan for America is becoming obvious even to those who thought he was going to step up and save our country.
I don't understand why his speech to the school children has caused such a controversy. Am I missing something? It seems like a good idea to have the children focus on what they can do to help the president, i.e. our country. How can it be brainwashing to ask them to think about the direction they want their life to go? I have read that a number of high school grads can't read well, they just drift through school, get the diploma and have no real plans. Most of them are not even aware of what is happening in the rest of the world let alone in this country.
What am I missing here? What is wrong with the children hearing this speech?

I don't think it was his speech as much as it was the lesson that was to accompany the speech.

Hermes, he did not imply or say any of those things. Jist of the speech was to stay in school and develope whatever talent they have and to use that talent to help their (our) country. It's much better to make the children realize there is some responsibility associated with being an adult. Too many parents molly coddle the "children" all the way thru college and beyond and wonder why they are still on the couch at 30. Too many parents want to make life easier on their children and give them what they didn't have when they were children. They give them expensive material things and forget about teaching them responsibility and that hard work is actually a good thing. Responsibility is a good thing to teach children. Parents are upset over Obama's address to the children but have no qualms about the children watching hours of TV or movies with negative messages. It takes a certain amount of responsibility to remain consistant in your beliefs.  Why don't parents say these things to their children?
