Goin' broke again in the old mowing fund for derelict properties. Adkins and Gilleland are in a quandry as to what to do. Abandoned properties abound in Middletown and the former property owners are long gone and won't mow the grass, while the banks say it ain't our problem- we haven't taken the property back yet.(had enough of the low income sector and the crap that goes along with it yet council and Gilleland? Just keep bringing in more) What to do?????
How about giving the mowing job to some high school kids? Give them a lawn mower or two, a trimmer, blower, edger and a pick up truck and a list of the properties from Adkins and turn 'em loose. Keep 'em out of trouble, let them earn some money and teach them a work ethic perhaps. Probably cheaper than hiring a lawn service to do it, right? How about a neighborhood volunteer? After cutting their grass, swing over to the abandoned house for a little cuttin" and trimmin". No big deal, right? Or, are people that lazy that they would live next door to a house with grass a foot high? Say it ain't so! He--, I'd cut it just because I wouldn't want to look at it everyday. Mercy! No class-no pride. |

Time for a new Tax Levy or................................Bankruptcy is in our future. Take some of that what $200-300K in HUD admin fees the city pockets and doles out and mow the grass.

How very odd that Mr. Adkins had unused funds to recently hire a personal secretary? Yet, he has inadequate dollars to take care of exploding nuisance abatement issues (tall weeds and grass). Does this mean that the Citywide neighborhood improvement plan of Judy G.a may not be so successful as she always tells us?
Didn't Mr. Adkins receive larger than expected CDBG and HOME Programs funds from HUD this year? And, didn't he receive $160,000+ in supplemental stimulus CDBG and $2,144,000 in stimulus Neighborhood Stabilization Program - Round One funds in 2009? With the cost of paving alleys, buying playground equipment for a little used public facility near the South Main Street Historic District, and non-approved Former Downtown Commercial Property Acquisition/Demolition, maybe the kitty is now bare?.
Once again Middletown USA readers, where's the money? Last year Mr. Adkins did not submit the Annual Performance Report to the citizens and HUD as has been the case for over 20 years. The deadline for a 2010 submission is fast approaching. This document and required public hearing is a major way of partially informing citizens what is and what is not going on.
Mr. Adkins has some explaining to do.

I've seen jail inmates working in the parks why can't inmates mow grass around these abandoned properties then they don't have to pay anything to anybody.
The people running this town into the dirt are the dumbest bunch I've ever seen.

Whatever happened to Mr. Adkins 2,000+ housing code violation letters that he had mailed out last year?
Whatever happened to Mr. Adkins proclamation that all of Middletown is a 54% low-income city?
Maybe the illustrious Judy G. will give him yet another big pay raise to go along with his new secretary?

Do the math,it is costing the city over 100.00 a lot to mow the grass? Why don't they use inmates or round up some of the free loading section 8 residents (not all that recieve section 8 are free loaders) and give them lawn mowers to use.Or would that interfer with thier beer drinking time. |
