Just got my renewal notice for my subscription to the Middletown Journal. August 2011 I paid $80.60 for 6 months. New rates $101.27!!!! That's a 25% hike! Did the news stand price go up?

I've been a subscriber for 25+ years but no thanks. Guess I'll just read online....

Understand the cost increase reasoning John. Cost increases....quality decreases. I quit taking the hardcopy Journal in early 2000. Finally got tired of reading only "good news" about the city, reading articles that had no objective journalism at all and reading articles which turned into the mouthpiece for the city leaders while being controlled by the city leaders.

Some of the participants here at MUSA came from the blogs of the Journal several years ago. At the time, we offered our opinions about the city and the Journal initially tried to curtail our activity by limiting the amount of words on our posts. We were not posting "good news" as they insisted we do. We suddenly starting seeing our posts being censored and disappearing the next day. Then, the Journal finally finished us off by shutting the blogs down entirely. So much for free speech.

The Journal, to this day, is a shadow of it's former self, written by outsiders who constantly bore us with stories concerning surrounding communities that most are not interested in(or city propaganda) Been reading on-line for years. It is sad to see what was once a decent publication, reduced to the pathetic state it is in today. If I couldn't read it for free, I wouldn't read it at all.

With time comes change. Change is suppose to be good for us as to improving things. Many have seen changes in this city, including the Journal. Sadly, many have yet to feel any of those changes have been an improvement nor good for any of us.

I think the Journal is bleeding cash. It doesn't know how to work with others because it clearly has a political agenda.

The only agenda here is what people post. This website offers great freedom of speech than the Journal. And for that we have fantastic posters such as Vivian, Mike, Pacman, Hermes, spider, acclaro, wasteful and of course you VietVet.

Plus many many more new and upcoming posters.

I like coming here because the posters here are more informed than many other area boards.

Keep up the good work.
