Bull’s Run Nature Sanctuary and Arboretum joins the world wide movement to celebrate EARTH HOUR!

On Saturday March 27, 2010 at 8:30 pm turn off the lights at home and join us at Bull’s Run located at 3909 Rosedale Rd. for a night hike! Learn fun and interesting facts about night life at the arboretum.

If you cannot join us at Bull’s Run plan an event at home. Candle light dinners, star gazing, or a fun hour of story telling in the dark; these are just a few of the unique fun activities you can do at home.

Climate change is happening all around us and its pace is accelerating. From melting glaciers to increasingly intense weather patterns, climate change is already impacting life on Earth.

In a bold statement of collective concern for our planet, millions of people around the world will turn off their lights for one hour—Earth Hour—on March 27, 2010 at 8:30 p.m. local time.

Sponsored by World Wildlife Fund, Earth Hour is the largest event of its kind in the world. In 2009, nearly one billion people from 4,100 cities in 87 countries turned out their lights, as well as international landmarks including the Golden Gate Bridge, Empire State Building, Eiffel Tower and Great Pyramids, and the city skylines of Las Vegas, Hong Kong and Tel Aviv.

I’m asking you to join our community’s effort to raise awareness of this issue by committing to run Earth Hour public service announcements in the weeks leading up to Earth Hour 2010. Public service announcements can be downloaded at www.myearthhour.org/tools/advertising.

Working together, our community can send a strong message that we care about the environment and are calling for action to save our planet for future generations.
