Middletown continues to graduate about 79 percent of its students.

“Seventy-nine percent is not enough,” said Debbie Alberico, Middletown City Schools’ communications specialist. “Our goal is to graduate 100 percent of our students. You can see that we have a lot of work ahead of us.”

The state requirement is 90 percent, though this year’s report card states 83 percent of Ohio seniors graduated high school in 2009. This is less than the graduation rate of 84.6 percent in 2008 and 86.9 percent in 2007, which was a high for the decade.

Lock the doors and buy every student a new computer

Some loosely phrased, oft-noted statements over the years, after the results have been published as to the Midd. schools yearly bottom rung performance. You've all heard them before:

More time is needed, as we develop, what we think will be a fine program, that will help us achieve better results.

We are excited and making progress each year with our new innovative programs that will produce upward trending results.

We need to continue our current path of educating our children and you can help us on our path by voting for our operational levy. For the kids- don't hurt the kids by voting no.

We feel that we are on the right path for learning as we incorporate some of the latest technical communication skills for teachers and administrators to allow them to succeed.

We have made much effort to adopt the latest techniques that will enable us to devote our full efforts to improving our test results.

And on and on it goes with the flowery descriptors necessary to overshadow the real problem of having many years and many opportunities to improve this situation, but in reality, having accomplished very little in upward progress. The prof. test results have become so stagnant that they are easily predictable- and, sadly, no real, radical change has been tried (that has made a difference) to change the trend. THAT is the frustration- content to take baby steps to improve rather than to leap into something that could produce positive results quicker. JMO

I know we have more Sec 8 folks and a bit more poverty, but how can Hamilton rank ahead of Midd. consistently and graduate over 90% of their students?  Sounds like an indictment on our district and board.
