Former Middletown Journal Carl E. Esposito has been named publisher of The Daily Times of Maryville, Tennessee effective Nov. 8. He succeeds Max Crotser, who retired August 31, 2010.

The press release was made Wednesday by Blount County Publishers, LLC, owner of The Daily Times.

Esposito, 57 has most recently been regional publisher and group leader of Media General's Tri-Cities/Southwest Virginia Group, including the Bristol Herald Courier, six paid circulation weekly newspapers and CBS affiliate WJHL-TV in Johnson City.

Before he joined Media General five years ago, Esposito spent 20 years in leadership capacities for other media organizations, including Community Newspaper Holdings, Inc., Cox Ohio Publishing, Thomson Newspapers, all who had owned the Middletown Journal at one point and Chew Newspapers.

A native of Middletown, Ohio, Esposito holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Northern Kentucky University and completed postgraduate programs at Columbia and Northwestern universities.

Fun fact: Carl Esposito was the first Journal Publisher to ban any news item for mentioning http://www.MiddletownUSA.com - MiddletownUSA or http://www.mainstreetmonroe.com - Main Street Monroe , in the Middletown Journal. Since then there had never been a mention of either of these two local websites in their newspaper with the exception of one paid for advertisement in 2001.

If the banning was true back then, sounds like old Carl was bought and paid for by the city power boys/Armco. Shame on Esposito for exercising censorship, a no-no in journalism. Armco/AK and certain members of this community have always controlled what was printed in the Journal, even when the newspaper was locally run and local info. was more prominent.

Well maybe ole Carls' replacement will be a real journalist.

I always thought reporting the news was more important than covering it up but apparently I was mistaken. Does Rupert Mordock own the journal ?

I hope the Journal some day has the guts to mention this site cause the ban that Carl started is still on. And that's a fact jack.

Mr. Beagle,

I, for one, would certainly be interested in hearing what triggered the “ban”. Is there any chance that we might hear “the rest of the story”???

I can't speak for Mr B but I do know there were some things said on http://www.mainstreetmonroe.com/voice/forum.asp?FORUM_ID=2 - The Voice of Monroe that Mr. Esposito deemed competitive. Imagine that a little Monroe internet site is a threat. Probably because the MJ was doing such a poor job covering Monroe news.

When MiddletownUSA was started, that band was extended. I'm not saying the Journal is being unfair, but I do think they miss allot of new that Xponex picks up on their two are sites.

Surprised to hear this because Carl Esposito is a really nice person, and from this area I believe.

Still--business is business
