The City of Middletown continues to expand the Business Visitation Program designed to open communication channels between the City, Economic Development programs and businesses that are located in Middletown. Each week, members of the ED team and participants from the business community visit selected companies to discuss items such as growth potential, new markets, work force development and resource needs. Information gathered helps support decisions on how the City moves forward to support Middletown businesses and helps attract new businesses to the area to fill gaps in service or resources.

Recently, one such visit with Trident Fluid Power identified a need to support 12-15 positions that are scheduled to move to Middletown in the near future. Contact was initiated among that company, WorkforceOne programs, and Cincinnati State Workforce Development personnel to begin looking at the creation of a curriculum to help train these employees. Business Visitation Programs help to understand the needs of the community, retain those companies currently in Middletown, and attract new businesses and opportunities.

This is positive information. When was this program adopted and what results has it produced since it's inception? If this program was just adopted, what was the econ. dev. dept and the city leaders doing prior to this program to initiate business development? Black Clawson/ AK Research/ Aeronca/ Corson Packaging and others started leaving in the early 2000's and the city has not kept up the pace of companies leaving versus replacement companies.

The last time someone from the city (other than fire inspectors) visited my business was July 2008.

I was surprised the other day when Bill Murphy, the City of Middletown’s Economic Director, called me and asked for an appointment.
Bill said he was on a mission to meet businesses in the city and find out what the city can do for them.

So, when he showed up today, he brought the president of Sawyer Realtors (a 70 year old Middletown Company), John Sawyer.
Also with Bill was Fred Debiasi. Fred sits on the board for the Chamber of Commerce and is the President of America Savings and Loan.
“We have to listen to our existing businesses first. We want to find out if the city can do anything to help. What can the city do for your company?” were the questions being asked.

Looks like activity in 2008. What about the time period between 2000 and 2008? Activity then?
