The resolution, passed in the House of Representatives by voice vote, "apologizes to African-Americans on behalf of the people of the United States, for the wrongs committed against them and their ancestors who suffered under slavery" formal segregation laws known as "Jim Crow."

I have to agree with Obama on this one.

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama opposes offering reparations to the descendants of slaves, putting him at odds with some black groups and leaders.

The man with a serious chance to become the nation's first black president argues that government should instead combat the legacy of slavery by improving schools, health care and the economy for all.

Put me down for agreement with you and Obama. Reparations to decendants for an occurance over 200 years ago? The African-Americans of today did not do the suffering and have not earned the reparation monies that they are asking for. If we're going to pay African- Americans for the misery of their ancestors, then we must pay the families of the Jewish families that were killed by the Nazis during WWII.Let's not stop there-I'm Scotch-Irish- pay me for what the English did to my ancestors. Ever see Braveheart? How about paying the Isrealis and Palestinians? African-Americans are not special- many people have suffered and were wronged in history but the ancestors were never "reimbursed" for the wrongdoing. Let's move on.
