MIDDLETOWN

City considers park and ride location

MIDDLETOWN —
The city is looking to create a park and ride location downtown, but it will need to purchase one property and lease another.

Council will consider legislation tonight — though a vote is not expected until March 19 — to purchase property at 42 N. Main St. for $20,000, and then lease the adjacent property, owned by Wausau Paper, for a $1 a year, according to Denise Hamet, the city’s economic development director.

SO, WE'RE BACK IN THE REAL ESTATE BUSINESS AGAIN EHH? LEASE THE PROPERTY FOR A DOLLAR A YEAR TO WHOM? WHAT, NO OTHER VACANT LOTS DOWNTOWN ALREADY OWNED BY THE CITY TO PLACE THIS SO-CALLED "PARK AND RIDE"? GOTTA BE THERE AND NOWHERE ELSE? FROM WHAT FUND WOULD THIS 20 GRAND COME FROM? CAN'T THEY USE THE CURRENT BUS TERMINAL AND SURROUNDING PARKING LOT FOR THIS?

AND....THEY ARE TEARING DOWN ANOTHER BUILDING TO CREATE MORE GREEN SPACE.....IMAGINE THAT. THEY LOVE TO DEMO THINGS, DON'T THEY.

The project, Hamet said, “creates the opportunity to leverage city resources.”

EXACTLY WHAT DOES "LEVERAGE CITY RESOURCES" MEAN? CLEVER LITTLE PHRASE WITH NO MEANING.

“The marketing of the Manchester combined with the growth of Cincinnati State and other downtown facilities is creating more demand for parking,” Hamet said

YEAH, IT'S A PROVERBIAL TRAFFIC JAM DOWN THERE NOW WITH ALL THE NEW ACTIVITY HAMET. GOTTA HAVE MORE PARKING FOR A HOTEL THAT HASN'T HAD A SERIOUS PURCHASER IN DECADES AND WOULD COST MORE THAN IT'S WORTH TO REHAB. GOTTA HAVE MORE PARKING FOR THE 300 OR SO ACTUALLY ATTENDING CLASS AT CS AND NOT ON-LINE, NOWHERE TO BE FOUND IN THE DOWNTOWN AREA. WHAT EMBELLISHMENT. MERCY.

The property was appraised in 2012 for $26,230, which is less than half of its appraised value in 2010

WHAT A DEAL!!!

City staff had been discussing potentially demolishing some city-owned buildings for additional downtown parking

WIDE OPEN SPACES DOWN THERE AND THEY STILL WANT TO KNOCK DOWN MORE BUILDINGS. KEEP IT UP AND THERE'LL BE NOTHING DOWN THERE BUT THE LIBERTY, PAC, BEAU VERRE AND CS. EVERYTHING ELSE WILL BE LEVELED. NICE CONCEPT.

ADDITIONAL PARKING? FOR WHAT REASON? IS THERE THAT MANY PEOPLE WHO GO DOWNTOWN TO WARRANT THIS?

I LIKE JOURNAL STORIES SUCH AS THIS. ALWAYS PROVIDES SOME EARLY MORNING HUMOR. LIKE TO SEE THE NEWEST ATTEMPTS TO RATIONALIZE THEIR ACTIONS.

I'm so proud of my hometown and what it has become. Recall 'em all. Let's start over.

Park where and ride to where?
It's not like the city roads and parking lots are jammed.
Simply ride to where you want to go.
As mentioned--who will guard the parking lot?

I don't know anyone who was aware of or understands this one.
Should be one interesting/entertaining meeting this evening.

The city bus terminal lot sits empty daily, with bus lines operating.
Word now is that the location is not considered "downtown".

In light of the faux gas lights that will soon appear on S. Main, perhaps the Park and Ride refers to parking your car and then taking a horse & buggy ride through downtown.

Whether it's downtown demo "visions", the Sorg Opera plans, or the Sorg Mansion, the one common theme in all this mularkey is that everyone wants to go from A to Z but without the money to do it.

This town is po'.

Weatherwax work session
However, after July 1, the course received “almost no water,” Adkins said, causing playing conditions to deteriorate. A water meter for irrigation needed replaced, but it was replaced with a smaller meter and it was not noticed until after word spread about the poor conditions, he said
DUHHHHHHHHHHHH........And we pay these people for? LOL

So, the "word spread" to all of the area golfers "about the poor conditions"...but the people that RUN THE PLACE didn't happen to notice it until it was too late???  Hmm...
