Many in congress are getting behind a proposal to increase the federal deposit insurance for bank accounts from $100,000 to $250,000.

Increasing that limit is a big help for small-business owners like me. I have to say I am 100% behind this idea.

Also it should help bank stability as people who have money over the current limit are often moving funds from existing banks to spread the risk of capital over the insured amount.

$250k is a reasonable amount for small businesses. But what about medium sized business?

I hope they include this as well as a capital gains elimination in the rescue bill later this week.

This is not a new proposal, but something that had been proposed either in 2006 or 2007.

I would have to agree with John. Small businesses need a cash safety. Just to ensure that payrolls will be met, vendors will be paid.
