According to today's Journal story, Hamilton is now involved in a spike in drug overdoses. This seems to have developed overnight as we had no early indications that Hamilton was headed in the wrong direction. Thought Butler county, as a whole, was doing better in reducing overdoses.

We have recently read where Middletown was enjoying a reduction of overdoses thanks to the task force setup by the city to respond more rapidly to those who overdose. We have also heard from the Chief of Police telling us things were improving as to overdoses in the city.

This latest news gives reason to suspect that all is really not as reported in Hamilton OR Middletown as to the real drug overdose scene in the two cities.

Just wonder how frequent the Narcan treatments are as to numbers actually being reported. One could have doubts as to what is reported at times.

Just wondering....did maybe we export our problem to Hamilton?  

I still remember the effect of then councilman Picard's suggestion about not responding to od's....could it be that the smart ones (not exactly a firmly planted bunch anyway) just migrated a bit south?

I'd like to think that we wouldn't be mislead about our efforts to thwart this activity in our fair city.

I do think the title is interesting --- use of Butler County versus Hamilton.  Wondering if it had been Middletown, if the same headline had been used.  

Could be due to the nature of the season?  Holidays, less daylight, more depression as a result?

If it was Middletown the headline would have said Middletown, we know that much for sure based on previous JN reporting.

The move to Hamilton makes sense.  There's been a concerted effort in Middletown between local and regional narcotics task forces that has yielded positive results.  Less dealers in Middletown means less supply in Middletown which in turn means that the dealers have to sell elsewhere and more people have to go out of town to get their fix.  

Some other recent reports seem to indicate that heroin/fentanyl has slipped from being the heaviest hitter due to some of these efforts (as well as more national crackdowns and enforcement) and meth is back on the rise.
