The Citizens for Historic and Preservation Services (CHAPS) are getting together with the public on 07/03/2007 to discuss ways to save the now vacant Carnegie Library building in Middletown Ohio.

I hate to see beautiful buildings demolished. This would be a tragedy, but I expect it will happen.
 
No market for old buildings these days.

Too expensive to fix up. Easier to tear down.

People will go through a lot of money to keep something they feel has significant historic value, though. I'm not sure the old library has enough historic significance to be worth spending a lot of money on, but I'm not exactly a history preservation enthusiast either.

It's hard to put a price on our heritage.

 

I just wonder if the building would even be in this situation had it been a little closer to downtown where it seams quite acceptable to spend money to keep the town looking nice.
