I have two comments:
First, it is sad that fewer than 10% of Middletown's registered voters bothered to vote.

Second, it seems strange that, just as in the Ward One City Council election last November, NO (zip, zero, nada, nil, not even one) votes were reported as having been cast in the portion of Middletown's Ward One which is in Warren County.  (This includes the subdivions of Manchester Park and Sawyers Mill.)  Something seems very strange about this.

At last Tuesday's council meeting, several council members mentioned that the income tax won in "a landslide", but to state it another way:
Percentage of registered voters voting FOR the tax......................7.07%
Percentage of registered voters voting AGAINST the tax..............2.14%
Percentage of registered voters FAILING TO VOTE....................90.79%

They succeeded in watering down the voter participation to eliminate the threat from the no voters, then, ramped up the "for the levy" voters and made sure they participated. Smart plan. They were successful and will continue to use this method as long as it is in their favor. August "off season" timing benefits them as many may not be aware or "forget" to go to the polls......the ones who don't "forget" are their buddies. They win. We lose. The apathy continues with most not caring one way or the other. What the heck are we in the minority suppose to do to stimulate the anger that should be present in this city? Apparently, most don't care whether the city is run correctly or not. Sad.

Interesting observation:

Number of Middletonians voting "FOR" the Public Safety tax this past August:  1,934
Number of Middletonians voting "FOR" the Senior Citizens' levy yesterday:  9,776

Mike,

There's nothing mysterious about this...

They put public safety levy's in august simply because they no the turn will be soo low they will be unlikey to lose.

Mike, we can always try to have the public safety tax resended and put on for next november??
