According to the local Cincy TV stations, Mayor Cranley is trying to force City Manager Black to resign due to his hostile behavior towards other city employees and performance. Black says he is staying and Cranley has a vendetta against him. Will the other council members back Cranley and fire Black? TBD
Hmmm. Just wonder how it would be if we had this situation in Middletown. Of course, that won't happen here because we all know that every elected, cloned council member just loves being run over by the City Manager and swallows his city plan hook line and sinker with no questions asked by any council member for years. A true "Boss Hogg" city for sure and it has brought this city to it's knees. Just once, just once, I would like to see some council resistance toward the city manager and his city destroying policies rather than to label them as spineless, rubber stamping, yes puppets agreeing to everything placed before them. Hell council, just ask a question or two in the meetings and act like you are interested. The little backroom club of "influential" people in this city has got to go at some point in time Middletown voters. Otherwise, nothing will change and this town will degrade even further as to livability and progress. |

Maybe, just maybe, Mr. Adkins will apply for a possible upcoming City Manager position in Cincinnati. Then, he could earn a $225,000+ salary plus lucrative fringe benefits. I'm not certain that the taxpayers there would welcome his "VERY INTERESTING" approaches to older neighborhoods revitalization, downtown and other commercial areas redevelopment, Section 8 and other subsidized rental housing initiatives policies, projects, etc. Unlike the passive nature of too many Middletown residents, Mr. Adkins, if hired, would encounter an ongoing city council and taxpayer assessment of his priorities and plans. It remains Middletown's loss that he's been given a free hand to do whatever he desires without any questioning since early 2009.

Spider, many of us noticed Mr. Adkins recent announcement that he'll spend $327,900 more of city funds to demolish the Strand/Studio Theater on Central Avenue. Just remember, It wasn't too long ago the city bought this blighted "downtown" property for $1.00 thereby bailing out the Finkleman family from the above demolition expense and also yielding them a nice tax write-off.
Spider, I can't imagine the people of Cincinnati finding any value in a new city manager like Mr. Adkins with his dubious record regarding city-subsidized "downtown" redevelopment, older neighborhoods rejuvenation, mega residential demolition, lavish and ineffective expenditure of HUD grants (NSP) and failed reform of Section 8. It would be a good thing for the people of Middletown though to have a new city manager with core competencies in urban planning and successful central city redevelopment.. As a sidebar, these actions further enhance future redevelopment opportunities for Mr. Robinette (Liberty Spirits LLC) who has already gotten significant city-funded subsidies for his properties encompassing much of the 1300 block of Central and Vail Avenues.

Why would Middletown’s brain dead council and administration ever buy buildings from the wealthy (Finkleman, who owned the Studio and sold to the city for $1 after it fell into disuse and deteriorated … or Thatcher (estate) who owned the Manchester Inn and the Sonshine building which the city bought and then allowed to deteriorate further.) and stick the poor over-taxed Middletown citizens with the bill for revitalization or demolition (more often)? Currently, is it that Robinette needed a parking area for Liberty Spirits and his surrounding buildings on Central Avenue? Good work council, buying the Studio Theater for one dollar and paying $327,900 to demolish it. Will the vacant property be handed over to Robinette or will he have to pay a whole dollar? With smart moves like that, Middletown will soon be rolling in money, according to Adkins. When is council going to be at least suspicious of Mr Adkins motives behind his recommended change of hands in downtown properties at such great loss to the city and such profit to particular people who reap the benefits of tax abatement, write offs and large $ amounts in concessions by the city to make repairs and improvements which usually never take place.
