Having seen that overpass a couple dozen times now, I think it looks a little rough/industrial. Maybe that was the idea? Or perhaps we don't have the money to put up the fancy signage?

Now we need AK steel to make stainless steel letters to inlay the Middletown name.
Because Middletown is a Steel Town. |

I believe it was said at a recent council meeting that there would be an inlay of some sort.

Hey! They left some letters off the overpass, didn't they?
MIDDLETOWN.....IT! Remember the catchy little phrase they came up with a while ago? MIDDLET OWN IT That went the way of the dodo bird to extinction. This overpass looks a little different than the one I pass by on I-675 by Centerville each day. Fancy iron railed fence across the overpass and landscaped. Nice advertisement for the city of Centerville. Wonder how much class the city leaders will present for the entryway to this city? |

Hmm...I'm sure that it is just my eyes playing a trick on me, but if you look closely, can't you see the "E" on the end of "MIDDLETOWNE"???

Gentlemen...
I'm still looking for that big shiny office building that is suppose to be located out next to 1-75 with the big AK sign on top...Oh that's right...That's the one that got away. |

Vet, you wouldn't be advocating any city funds be used to gussy up the interchange would you? As I recall some others on here....acclaro, Mr. P....trashed the idea of using ANY funds despite a state match to put in a water feature. I think it was to cost $14,000 and the state kicks in $40,000? Something like that?

$14,000 you say? The city has wasted alot more than that on crap that never materialized. I'd say this $14 grand would be worth it with respect to other fiascos. We could take it out of the overpaid salaries of the city building big shots or some hidden fund somewhere. Actually, it's the other side of the bridge that has the problem with cosmetics. Kinda deserted. A little apocalyptic in it's barren wasteland look and a hell of a first impression to visitors coming into town. A little landscaping would do wonders (as well as actually populating the area with a gas station or two) Need to get old Jeff whats his name out there with his crew to "Beautify Middletown". Isn't he the leader of that group? They helped at Douglass Park with the new trees, do the planters around the city and helped with Armbruster Nature Preserve I believe. Why not the project out by the freeway? (Or is that sacred state land?) |

Actually, I believe that Council recently authorized a hundred grand or so to add a few new bricks to the "Welcome to Middletowne" monument, and to update the logo thereon.
(And as I recall, the price I heard for the DESIGN alone for the "water feature" was over $100K.)

Putting more money into that bad sign by Bob Evans? The one that is tough to read because instead of reading "Middletown" it reads:
M I D D L E T O W N ? Brilliant signage. Must've been one of PR specialist Mort's ideas. |

Top notch thinking again from our leaders....... The water feature will be a spiffy splash pad replacement for the demolished Sunset Pool for the kids. Right after installation, we can have buses take the kids out to I-75 to enjoy this newfound recreational feature offered by YOUR city leaders.....at least until Kohler tells them it's not for that use. Of course, in that location, it may be a tad bit dangerous for the kids. Will the bricks be offered for sale like Bicentennial Commons? Perhaps a mini bike path is in order out there too. These are high priority items for the city, for sure. |
