MIDDLETOWN, Ohio, Oct. 9 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- AK Steel (NYSE: AKS - News) said today that Fisher Engineering, a division of its subsidiary Douglas Dynamics LLC, was recently honored by the Maine Safety Council. Fisher Engineering, located in Rockland, Maine received the "Annual Significant Improvement in Health & Safety Award." The award was presented on September 25, 2003 in Portland at the Safety Council's awards luncheon which was held as part of the 76th Annual Maine Safety and Health Conference. According to the Maine Safety Council, the awards program honors those companies and organizations "judged to have exemplary safety programs."

"Safety remains AK Steel's number one priority, and it's good to see our Fisher employees be recognized for the significant improvement they have made," he said.
The Rockland plant has shown a steady improvement in its safety performance during the past decade resulting in an OSHA Total Recordable Incident Rate of 3.8 for 2002. The plant has experienced zero recordable injuries thus far in 2003.
Douglas Dynamics is one of the country's leading manufacturers of snow and ice removal equipment. The Fisher Engineering plant in Rockland has about 190 employees and produces high quality snowplows for commercial and non- commercial applications. |
