Henrietta Nye speaks out in favor of Issue 7
Friday, October 24, 2003 4:05:27 PM - Middletown Ohio
I am writing to you today as a concerned homeowner, parent, business owner and member of several community groups. I have lived in Middletown for 25 years, which I know to many means I am a new comer – but, still I am very pleased to call Middletown home. Over these many years, I have heard many conversations regarding the schools, the educational process and the teaching staff in Middletown. I regret to say that many times the conversations were very negative. I have been very disappointed the last couple of years as I have approached people to recruit them for community projects, that they would say, “Oh I don’t live in Middletown.” As I ask community leaders what this town needs to attract the best talent, the answer is always – do whatever you can for the schools.

I am truly concerned as a business owner as to the type of employees I will be able to find in the employment pool and/or the outside talent I will be able to attract to our business, if the schools are not supported. As a homeowner, I worry that if we should ever plan to move, the value of our house will have declined. Many people look to their homes as a nest egg for retirement – like the stock market, this value may be going down.

I say thank you to the wonderful people of the past who believed in my children’s generation and voted to give them a good start in life. It is our turn to step up to the plate and do the same for the current and future generations. I hope my friends and neighbors will be joining me in voting for the bond issue on November 4th.
