March Update to City Council
Wednesday, March 25, 2009 12:43:01 PM - Middletown Ohio
Weekly Update to City Council
from the City Manager
March 22, 2009

Bond Rating for the SR122/I-75 Interchange
Moody’s has assigned an A1 Bond Rating to our SR122/I-75 Interchange Project.  This is a very good rating.

Bond Issue Update
The $6.4M in bonds for our share of the $150 Million SR122/I-75 Interchange Project will be sold either March 31st or April 1st.  ODOT has agreed to accept our payment on April 1st per our request.

Section 8 Update
We were scheduled to meet last week with CONSOC to finalize negotiations.  At their request, the meeting was rescheduled to this week.  If all goes well, I anticipate bringing a contract to Council for consideration at the first meeting in April.

Duke Energy Donation
Good news!  We have been selected by DUKE to receive another $2000 toward tree planting in celebration of Earth Day.   They will also bring a group of volunteers to assist in planting the trees.  I would like to thank Duke Energy for their continued support of the City.

From the Int’l City Management Newsletter:
Pittsburgh Council Approves Ban On Upholstered Furniture Outdoors.
The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review (3/17, Boren) reported, "Pittsburgh City Council today approved a ban on outdoor sofas, mattresses and other upholstered furniture, but the law won't create the 'couch police.'" Councilman Bill Peduto said that citations "will be complaint-driven." The code is intended to give the city the means "of forcing people to remove rodent- or insect-infested furniture from front porches when neighbors complained." The ordinance "sets fines of $200 to $500 for each day the furniture remains outside."

Income Tax Extended Hours
The City of Middletown Income Tax division will be expanding operating hours for Monday, April 13th thru Wednesday, April 15th.  The Tax office will be open from 7:00 A.M. to  6:30 P.M.  The City of Middletown offers assistance with personal income tax filing to any individual that comes to our offices with all required filing information (W2’s, 1099’s etc.).  Filers can avoid long waits for service by filing early.  The City’s offices are open Monday thru Friday from 8:00 to 5:00.  The City will be closed April 10th for Good Friday.

All City income tax returns must be postmarked by April 15th to avoid penalties.

Trauma Training for Firefighters
Dr. Dan Butler, Trauma Chief of the Atrium Medical Center, instructed Middletown Firefighters in the area of Trauma, specifically Chest Trauma and related complications.  Firefighters train monthly in both Fire and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) to meet state and national continuing educational requirements.
