Christopher D. Carter, born November 25, 1965, has
been announced as one of the 17 finalist for the 2009 hall of fame
class.
Carter was born in Troy, Ohio
where he spent the majority of his early childhood before moving to
Middletown with his mother, 3 brothers, and 2 sisters. Carter
played both football and basketball during his time at Middletown High
and was heavily recruited for both sports during his senior
year. He accepted the offer from Ohio State, partly to please
his mother who was a buckeyes fan, and thus began his distinguished
football career.
Despite not playing his senior year
at Ohio State due to ineligability, Carter left the college holding the
school record for receptions (168) and was selected as a member of the
Ohio State Football All-Century Team in 2000. After his
college career Carter went pro and played with the Philadelphia eagles,
Minnesota Vikings, and the Miami Dolphins. Retiring in 2002,
Carter left behind a Legacy that few people in history have rivaled and
matched.
Carter finished No. 2 behind
Jerry Rice in career receptions (1,101) and touchdowns (130) by a
receiver. He is one of only 5 players in NFL history with
1,00 or more receptions and is the only player to record 120+
receptions in a season twice (1994 & 1995). Carter
also holds the record for most touchdown passes caught by an African
American player and was named to the NFL 1990's All-Decade
Team.
Currently Carter is a facutly member and
assistant coach at St. Thomas Aquinas High School where his son plays
wide receiver. He is also the owner of Cris Carter's FAST
Program, a sports training center in Florida, and has also accepted a
job as an ESPN analyst.
