MIDDLETOWN POLICE OFFICER GEOFF GETTER NAMED OFFICER OF THE MONTH

Chief Greg Schwarber of The Middletown Division of Police has begun an OFFICER OF THE MONTH program.  It is a peer recognition initiative designed to bring attention to the excellent work our officers are performing.  Police employees nominate officers when they observe or become aware of exceptional performance conducted by one of our officers.  The nominations are then reviewed and voted on by all sworn officers in the Division; the nominee who receives the most votes is named OFFICER OF THE MONTH.

January 2009 is the first month for this program.  There were three nominees for the award;
Officer Kathy Jones was nominated for her work in a series of burglaries where the only evidence was the fact that the perpetrator road a bicycle and left behind shoe impressions.   She stopped several individuals on bicycles over a period of weeks until she found a person with shoes that matched the ones found at the crime scene.  This information lead to the arrest of Kevin Pergram age 32, of 4000 Tytus Ave. for Burglary.

Officer Geoff Getter, a Middletown officer since 2000,  was nominated for his work in capturing two men believed to be responsible for over 50 burglaries committed in the Middletown Area.   The Division received a call of a Burglary on Aberdeen St. where an individual ran away from the scene on foot.  Officer Getter observed a vehicle matching the description of a vehicle involved in previous burglaries; the vehicle was observed about a mile from the scene, well outside the perimeter other officers were establishing to catch the burglar.  Upon stopping the vehicle Officer Getter found Anthony Hollon age 33 of 6501 Germantown Rd. Lot 322, and Josef Porter age 49 of 3350 S. Main St. Lot 37, in possession of stolen items from the burglary on Aberdeen St.  Both individuals were charged with Burglary.  Detectives subsequently recovered stolen items from other burglaries committed in and out of our jurisdiction.

Officer Ken Mynhier was nominated for his work identifying one of the suspects of a Robbery that was committed at US Market on Baltimore St.; the perpetrators had concealed their faces and wore gloves.  Officer Mynhier was one of the first responding officers and through contacts with a citizen on his beat was able to find out that Peter Butler age 18 of 805 S. Main St. was involved.  This information aided the detectives in charging Peter and his juvenile accomplice with Robbery.

After reviewing these nominations the officers at the Middletown Division of Police selected Officer Geoff Getter as the Division’s OFFICER OF THE MONTH.

Chief Schwarber presented Officer Getter with the award on January 30th and thanked all of the officers for their hard work and dedication.
