Looking at the amount of signage that you have now on the front of your building I don't see how you can complain about signage laws. |

What? The banner that runs along the top of the glass. Or the name of my store? Plenty of places have more than that. I'd rather have some signs than be a empty storefront. |

Are you referring to the 25% rule? That you can only cover 25% of window frontage. What you currently have is eye catching and plenty from what I can see. I don't see what you mean by empty store frontage. |
11/5/2009 9:39:52 AM | Mr. PawnBroker |
No...more of the little signs that you can place in front of your store. I am working with the city right now to get approved. Its just hard to do business when some places paint their entire store yellow and and have 50 neon flashing lights on 24 hours a day. It just seems they pick and choose who to go after. |

I agree as far as the city goes and their allowing the rainbox colors on Central. Persoanlly I would come to your place before the others, nothing wrong with your color scheme at all. City should take a lesson from your store front and the colors. That may be asking to much though. |

Is it a requirement for every pawnshop to look like crap? Downtown would look better if that building were still empty! |
11/5/2009 5:44:36 PM | Mr. PawnBroker |
Before you say my store looks like crap why don't you come and take a look inside. I have the best looking store in middletown. Its uneducated people like you that are tearing this city down. Why hate on my store? You don't know me. |

I am not "hating" on the inside of your store. I simply stated the obvious. It DOES look like crap. I think you should add more signs to the front of your store!!! lol Maybe even fill all the window space!! That would look super cool! Oh, and before you call me uneducated; there is no need for an apostrophe on the word treasures. lol |

It's people like you that hurt Middletown. Have you ever been inside the store? I have and it is nice, as for signs who cares? If a business wants signs all over their store they should be able too. It is people like you cash, that hurt middletown. Here is a guy that is trying to own a business, downtown no less, and you want to be a jerk. I bet you work at Rich's shop or one of the swap shops that look so nice downtown.
Mr. PawnBroker, I like your store and have meet you and you are a nice a guy. Please dont stoop to his level. |

He can have his opinion. All my signs are done by professionals and I try to make them look as nice as possible. If he thinks they look bad then oh well. I know pawnshops have a bad reputation but if you did research on what it takes to own a pawnshop in Ohio with all the rules and regulations you would change your mind. You can't just get a vendors license and open shop like these "Swap Shops" that are everywhere now. I know I help out people that need some quick help. People that are laid off and need money for rent or food. Or people looking to save money for christmas and holidays. Some people can't get loans from banks or maybe need small loans. That is what I do. Sure, you are going to get some knuckle-heads but for the most part my customers are hard working people who need a little extra help. I am proud to call myself a pawnbroker. |

I agree. The signage on these store fronts are a little over the top. Why would the owner of this pawn shop want more signs than he has now cluttering up the curb appeal? I can see 3 neon signs from the front of the store as well as an open sign and not to mention the the banner across the top of the window. Seems tacky for the small amount of space he has.JMO |

How many open signs do you really need? |

CASH FOR GOLD!!!:
You are correct. He erred in calling you “uneducated”! The correct term is “ignorant”.
If he was trying to imply that “a heart of gold is the real treasure”, then his using an apostrophe in naming his business “Treasure IS of the chest” is not only a clever word play, the proper sentiment for a pawnbroker, and one which you lack, but it is also grammatically correct! |

I don't want to cover my store with signs. I am fine with the 25% rule. I'm talking about a small A-frame sign outside on the sidewalk. Thats it. And the city can do whatever. I'll be fine. My concern is for businesses that just open and are trying to get customers. They can't run ads in the paper....too expensive. So its hard for them if the city limits there sign useage. I don't want businesses throwing trashy looking signs everywhere. All I have is the professional painted banner and the open signs. The other signs in the picture are acutally inside the store. All I'm saying is I'd rather see an extra sign than a "For Rent" sign on the store. |

Why does everyone have to get so hateful on this posts? I think hiding behind a computer makes everyone braver...I hope people would be a little more respectful if they were meeting face-to-face.
BTW. I like the looks of your store...a little confused with the apostrophe on some signs, but not others; then again, I'm not an english major.
Do you have any bongo or conga drums? I may come down this weekend to look. I think it would be cool to have a drum circle downtown. It's very theraputic, and some folks on here could use some stress relief. |
11/6/2009 3:43:02 PM | MrPawnBroker |
First...my name that I started the business with was just the treasure chest. But that name was registered with the state so to get my pawn license I had to change it a little. When I answer the phone I say treasure chest. I'm not sure why the guy that made the sign at the top added the apostrophe but I just left it. I didn't think it was a big deal. Its not like that on anything else. And to answer g, I can order you bongos or other types of drums. You could come in and I could show you somes books. thanks |

I would like to check your store out sometime. I don't live too far away and pass by your store many times. I do think that the city needs to be more business friendly,so there would be more business downtown, rather than closed down buildings. Keep up the good work :) |
