Middletown Division of Fire EMS Training
The Division of Fire held its monthly EMS training on Summer Emergencies. Our guest instructor and Atrium Medical Center EMS Liaison Mike Jett reviewed topics on Heat Related Emergencies, Anaphylaxis, Drowning, Near Drowning, fireworks injuries, and trauma related to summer and agricultural activities. The session included lecture as well as practical exercises in the administration of medication for allergic reactions and application of traction splints necessary for femur fractures. The Atrium Medical Center’s Emergency and Trauma Departments play a major role in providing the required training for the Division of Fire’s personnel.
Middletown Police Division (MPD)
On Tuesday, August 9th, the Division of Police was invited to meet with local business owners to discuss concerns of crime trends in the city and develop a plan of action to work together to deal with problems. The meeting was held at the Chamber of Commerce and was attended by over twenty business owners and several police officials. Business owners introduced themselves and then each took a few minutes to relay their concerns to each other and the police department. Topics included crime prevention, proactive research and partnership forming with each business present. The next meeting will take place in September and the goal was set to reach out to more business owners to encourage participation in making businesses safer for customers, clients and employees. The gathering was a success and was very productive in beginning a new chapter in working together to solve the problems the business owners brought to the table.
