The Citizens Supporting Butler County, Middletown, and Monroe, a coalition of Middletown area citizens who support the building of a SunCoke Energy facility off Yankee Road, will be holding a news conference at 11:00 A.M. today, April 30, at the SunCoke facility cite. Several local leaders will be on hand to speak including Butler County Sheriff Richard K. Jones, Commissioner Don Dixon, county Prosecutor Robin Piper and officials from AK Steel Corp. and the Chamber of Commerce serving Middletown, Monroe and Trenton. According to BMA Media Group, the public relations firm residents have hired to promote the project, the event will allow "hundreds" of Butler County residents to express their concerns about the $340 million facility and the Clean Air Act lawsuit filed by the city of Monroe against the plant's air permit. The Citizens claim the lawsuit is based on unfounded environmental concerns and that the city has hired unauthorized legal counsel without allowing citizens their right of referendum in the process. If constructed, the facility will supply coke and energy to AK Steel's Middletown Works operations and create 500 temporary construction jobs, along and 75 permanent jobs once completed.
