Economic Development Director As a county favorably positioned in the growing Cincinnati-Dayton metroplex, the Warren County Board of Commissioners authorized the creation of the Warren County Port Authority. The resolution agreed to on February 6, 2007 better equips the county to positively shape future economic development. The Warren County Port Authority is comprised of seven Board Members that work and live in this county. Each member was asked to serve because of their experience fostering business and employment opportunities for the residents of Warren County.
Some have asked what waterway or airport our county has that connects us to international markets. Why a Port Authority? Under Ohio Revised Code, the economic tools historically afforded to cities located on ports (i.e. Toledo, Cleveland and Cincinnati) are also available to other political subdivisions within the State. These tools will allow the Warren County Port Authority to assist companies interested in becoming corporate citizens in Warren County. One important tool utilized by port authorities is to issue bonds for economic development. Bonds are purchased by a financial institution and are based off the credit of the entity for which they are issued. Bonds are also allowed to pass through the port authority when a special assessment has been issued on a parcel set for economic development. The fees generated from this service will allow the Warren County Port Authority the opportunity to establish funds and other programs. These new initiatives will be aimed at assisting small to medium sized companies interested in locating or expanding their operations in the county. Each successful new business enterprise established in the County will afford residents the chance to work in their local community and generate additional tax revenue to support the Countys excellent quality of life. As the Warren County Port Authority continues to work on its organizational structure, it is important to have a dialogue with Warren County citizens. Each Port meetings date and time is sent to local news print for publication. Public attendance at the Ports meetings is encouraged and welcomed. The Warren County Port Authority wishes to be proactive and bring positive economic development to Warren County. The Port also desires to keep Warren County a great place to live and to enhance the already enjoyable quality of life we call home. For additional information, please call the Warren County Office of Economic Development at (513) 695-2090. EMBED> |
