Monday, Oct. 12, 2015 Several projects under way around Middletown
By Ed Richter Staff Writer The
proposed Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area for the downtown cleared another
hurdle last week on its path to become the first city in Last
week, a public hearing was conducted before Middletown City Council on the
issue. However, it was a very short hearing as there was no one speaking for or
against proposal. The option to hold a public hearing was requested by council
members who was looking to gather additional input from the community. City
Manager Doug Adkins said the next step will be to prepare the legislation to
enact the DORA that could go into effect by mid-December. Once the legislation
is approved, a notice will be sent to the Ohio Division of Liquor Control, city
officials have said. When
council adopts the legislation, the DORA would be established in a half-mile
space within the city’s entertainment district downtown. While the boundaries
can be adjusted as necessary, it would be the area bounded by Clark Street,
Manchester Avenue, South Canal Street, Columbia Avenue including Donham Plaza,
North Main Street, including the buildings on the northwest corner of North
Main and Central Avenue, Central Avenue to the Great Miami River and around the
southern edge of Forest Hills Country Club, Water Street and around the
American Legion on South Main Street to First Avenue, to South Canal Street, to
Reynolds Avenue to Curtis Street to Central Avenue back to Clark Street. The
proposed hours for the DORA would be from 6 p.m. to midnight on Thursdays,
Fridays and Saturdays, and at any other times established by the chief of
police with the concurrence of City Council through a council motion. There
are several other updates to ongoing projects around the city. They include: The
owner of the The
city’s chief building official posted a notice on Aug. 13 that the building was
unsafe for occupancy and there was an imminent danger of falling bricks and
other debris. The notice also ordered the building’s owner, Daniyal LLC, to do
the work necessary to make the structure temporarily safe and to get the building
back into compliance with the city’s building codes. Because
of the potential danger, the city spent $8,700 to have contractor put up the
emergency fence around the building and hire a structural engineer to evaluate
the roof and all floors in the five-story building. The cost to totally repair
the building has been estimated between $150,000 and $250,000, according to
city officials. Work
is under way at the former Social Security Administration office, This
$1.5 million project was approved by the Middletown Planning Commission in May
2014. The building was originally constructed in 2000 under Warren County
Planning Commission prior to the city annexing the property, according to city
officials. The
former Chip’s Laundry at According
to city records, additional framing was to be added to the existing roof
trusses. The valuation of the project was listed at $10,000. |

To Vivian Moon, Acclaro, Viet Vet, Over The Hill, etc. -
Regarding the Manchester Inn, etc., did city staff ever require the so-called project redevelopers to provide project renderings, construction prints, building materials, cost estimates, and so forth? Did city staff ever require a sources and uses of funds budget? How professional and thorough was the request for proposals and qualifications packages prepared by city staff? Where potential historic preservation funds were concerned, did the city staff require necessary architectural and building materials details sufficient to meet the standards of the state historic preservation office? From what little fluff Eddie Richter provides us in the print media, I cannot recall any of the above issues being discussed. Of course, we don't really know what kind of constraints that are placed on Eddie in his so-called news reporting! |

To bad someone can't ask Miss Judy. She was in such a hurry to give everything away. She didn't have a clue how to negotiate a business plan.

Miss Judy did not have a clue about anything. She did a good job of ruining this town along with our brainless council headed up by Mulligan. So sad.
