From the editorial in today’s eJournal: “As train supporters pointed out to The New York Times, this is sort of like turning down a free car because you don’t want to have to pay for gasoline and insurance.” No, editors, it is much more like turning down a “free” Greyhound bus (that your children and grandchildren will be paying for) because you will be paying for the fuel and the insurance and the maintenance, and the bus drivers and the ticket takers, and the multitude of other employees that you will be forced to hire to run that bus several times every day to several places that you seldom will want to go. And on those few occasions that you do want to go, you still must arrange to get to the bus at a time that may not be convenient to you, endure several stops that you do not want to make, pass by several stops that you would like to make, arrange transportation at the other end from wherever the bus stops to wherever your final destination is, and hope that nothing happens that changes your plans to prevent making your scheduled return trip precisely on-time since “your” bus will simply leave without you. And you have to run the bus several times per day, everyday, even if NO ONE wants a ride!!!
So now, who is the cheesehead???

Hey Mike, do you mean like the newly created bus service in Middletown used to transport the people to Hamilton and to Miami in Oxford? Still haven't heard the amount of ridership and the cost of maintaining this service, for how many riders???? This was all the news several months ago. Now that it has been implemented, we never hear the outcome on whether it is a success or a big money-waster. Must be losing money or they would have bragged about how successful it has been. |
