The average price of gasoline in the area has fallen 60 cents in the last 3 weeks, and is expected to continue to drop for some weeks to come. The recent spike in gas prices was attributed to refinery problems which are now reported to be fixed. The average price for gas Thursday was $2.85, down from a peak $3.48 on May 22 and nearly equal to average prices one year ago. The Energy Information Administration, part of the U.S. Department of Energy, expects national prices to continue to drop in June and July before going back up in August to an average $3.11 per gallon.
